Nothing draws more attention than a giant oversized tool. I've always been fascinated by them. These are the big oversized tools that helped build our country's industry. Whether it was bridges, subways, skyscrapers, industrial engine rooms or the Railroad....big tools were required to finish these accomplishments. Myself, I've always been interested in Railroad tools. Not just because there are some enormous railroad tools, but also because of the role the railroad played in kick starting American Industry.

These different industries didn't make there own tools. There were many different manufacturers that forged these tools dating back to the early & mid 1800's like Bemis & Call, Coes & many others. My Dad was an engineer & worked in a plant. He told me many stories, like the wrench that required 3 men to use & how they moved it around in a large wheelbarrow.

If you've got a giant wrench, ratchet, vise or any big oversized tool used by the Railroad or any other large industrial setting....this is the place to post it. Post your pics or any information you know about them. Post any vintage pics of railroad workers using these tools too. Those are always fun to see. Also, post your smaller Railroad stamped tools that were used by the Railroad as they also played an important role too.
But, if it's BIG....post it here.

I'll start off with a few of my big monkey wrenches & pipe tongs, likely used by the Railroad.

Lowell Wrench Company is one of my favorites. I'll be posting some really big Lowell ratchets on here at some point.

I didn't post any of the "ratchet" pages in this thread. I believe there is another "Lowell" thread that I posted those in already.

That's everything tagged "railroad" or "track drill" that I have currently. You guys start posting stuff and something else will click.
I am not going to post all the catalog pages for HAMMERS in this thread because there are simply too many of them. I have almost all of them them tagged "striking tools" in the list. Many of them have already been posted here somewhere.

I knew there was a reason I had all these files collecting dust in various folders.... they were just lookin' for a home... like that Boll Weevil.

Looks like I forgot all about "Jack" here we go:

NC transportation museum is a great place to look at trains and tools. There are displays of some of the tools and you can look into the repair shop where they are actively restoring some locomotives.
That would be cool to see what they are doing to some of the trains in the repair shop.

I have a 15 ton Simplex 'railroad jack'. Not sure if it was actually used by a RR or not. I also have an old monkey wrench with a RR stamped on it, but it's buried in a box somewhere, and I don't remember what RR it is from. Cool old catalog pics!

Here's a line-up of some big ratchets, some of which I know was used on the Railroad because of who I acquired them from. I'll eventually post a pic of my monster 50" Lowell ratchet used by the infamous Sandhogs. I still have it soaking to try & loosen up the mechanism.

heres a w&b rr car wrench i been trying to figure out what company the "PS in keystone" relates to. i think it relates to Pennsylvania rr system, but i see more prr markings for that line. i don't know why its called a car wrench.DSC04721.jpgDSC04718.jpgDSC04720.jpg
i have alot of rr tools, they don't seem to have much interest to collectors. (cheap&more 4 me)

Here's a few more Railroad stamped tools. A couple Bemis & Call's marked B&O, another L&N RR Co and a W&B Railroad Special.
