Rails for hanging Akro type bins

I have a place in my shop that I would like to place a rail to hang several of the Akro type bins. I have a square sheet for hanging them that is roughly 2' by 2', it won't fit in the area I'm working on. Having a rail that is 4 foot long or so would be ideal. The Bin Store offers these but they are only 12" in length. Since this will be on drywall I would have to use anchors and such, being able to run a single piece at hit the studs would be much easier and neater.

Has anyone seen a strip like this or has anyone crafter one of your own?

I would think you could make your own out of some sheet metal or thin bar stock and space it off the wall with washers.

I made a set of rails for an awkward closet of mine that I put 18" deep bins in. IIRC, I used 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" steel angle. It not only had the exact sized lip I wanted, but also the strength that I could weld it on both ends, and not need lots of center support.

I have HF bins similar to the akro style of bins. I made shelves for them to sit on. I feared they would break or deform enough to fall off. . . . causing a huge mess.

For my deep and narrow closet problem, I bought six 30265 bins. They're 8-1/4" wide and 18" deep, and are rated to hold a ludicrous 60lbs! I suppose I could get to that filling them with iron bars, but stuffed to the gills with batteries and screwdrivers, it just doesn't get close.

I'm not sure how much I trust the HF bins, but if they're a design copy of the Akro, they're probably a lot stronger than you give them credit for.

I can't find a photo right now, but I've used the wire closet shelving material from the big box stores. The bins clip onto it very nicely. Mount it slightly offset from the wall.

As others have mentioned, I've also used thin bar stock offset from the wall slightly.

Kinda depends if you have only 1-2 rows wide or multiple rows. The closet shelving works better for a narrow vertical area, while the rail works well for wider areas.

I used to drive GE Appliance service vans that used bins on the sides and back of the vans. They had 6 and 4 foot rails for the bins. You might try some truck custom builders that build commercial vans. I removed several from vans being traded in and have them on the walls of my shop, very handy and I wish I had some more of them. Not much way to custom bend them unless you have really heavy long box brake, they look to be 14 gauge metal.

I used a 18” x 19” wall mounting plate from McMaster-Carr.
