I did mine out of rough sawn 2x10 spruce from the sawmill. Lined it with newspaper so the water could perk through but the bottom would stay moist. Newspapers also keep weeds from growing up through the bottom
for some reason the summer (central valley CA) stuff struggles. I'm not blaming the planters.....

I considered making raised beds out of wood but thought of something different. My next door neighbor is an underground contractor, so I thought concrete pipe. He had some surplus 48" dia pipe in 24" (or 30", I don't remember) sections so he brought them over. So far it's worked well for winter and spring vegetables, but for some reason the summer (central valley CA) stuff struggles. I'm not blaming the planters.....
They have been named the "missile silos". I bought some spray can concrete stain but never got around to staining them.
These won't rust, rot, fall over, be damaged by yard equipment, blow over in the wind, float away in a flood, attract termites, catch fire, etc.....
