raising a blower off the ground

I've got a blower that looks like this:

I need to raise it about 6feet off the ground via some sort of supporting structure.

I'm not opposed to having someone weld something up, but I'm not sure how to spec it out. (what to use for legs, angle, tube, i beam)

other options (basically what we have laying around Pallet racking, and PT lumber)

How would you tell the metal fab shop what I need? The complete blower I have weighs less than 3000 lbs.

I think some legs like this would work

Square tubing is better than angle iron in most situations, based on my personal experiences. A lot depends on the design, material strength, etc. The skill of the fabricator may come into play as well. If you have limited experience, perhaps using the services of a metal design and fabricating company is needed.

I would use 3x3x3/8" angle for the legs and top of frame. Assuming you have adequate concrete a 8" x8" x 1/2" plate on each corner, with a 5/8"-3/4" anchor. 2" x2" x1/4" angle for diagonal bracing . I'm not an engineer, but have built and seen many constructed like that. I would avoid tubing since it is more prone to rustout and splitting from the water which will get in and freeze.

If there is pallet racking available, maybe two sections of it side by side bolted together with the blower sitting on both.

Pallet racking is for static loads only, not dynamic. That type of thing is usaually on a fabricated welded structure that has been engieered for all the forces involved.

I was going to say something about the vibrations of that thing. Even though the listing states having vibration insulators, I'd still want that factor taken into account when built.

MJD1 has a good idea in my opinion. You will need a sketch or better yet a dimensioned drawing to send to the fab shop, the more "engineering" they do the more it will cost. Definitely need a very accurate measurement of the mounting situation, or deliver the blower to them for test assembly. Clean hot rolled steel should be 7018 stick welded. Ideally you'd have the 4 "feet" tied together, the top tied together, and use diagonal-bracing on all 4 sides (if using angle) X-bracing if using flat-bar, plus potentially an internal diagonal of the cube.

I must admit, I am curious: how do you intend to raise the 3000 lbs up 6 feet to set it on the stand? Also what HP motor is going to be wired here? I'd include some provisions for mounting a disconnect, liquid tite or EMT, etc.

Is hanging it an option? I'm thinking threaded rod from the framework on the bottom with some spring type vibration isolators.

Hang it from what? 3000 pounds is about what the average car weighs. That is a ton and a half!

Just imagine trying to suspend your car from the ceiling. You would need a pretty serious setup to do that, plus a really beefy roof.

We hang these all of the time in manufacturing facilities and it's not easy. Threaded rod isn't the best method due to vibration. Roof structure has to be able to support the weight.

Unless I am mistaken ... I think this is it.

Big *** Blower

10-4 !

I would call these people (J&M) and ask if they have anything you could use ,otherwise a local fab shop can help you out without a lot of engineering. You probably (I would) want to add 4 spring isolators between the two.I've installed these on large generators. (look up grainger)

even call New York Blower for help !

I asked if hanging was an "OPTION"! Meaning is there any thing above it strong enough to support it! I didn't think you had a skyhook, I was told I got the last one several years ago!LOL
