I have a Ram compressor that I picked up at an auction, motor was shot. I bought a new 5 hp motor from Surplus Center, built a new motor mount and off we went.

Like you, I've had trouble finding any information about the unit. Mine also hisses. :bounce:

You might find it easier to just get a new compressor. You can always make gaskets out of gasket material, but finding the reed valve(s) might be difficult. I don't know who manufactured the actual compressor unit.

I just picked up the same compressor. Mine has a bad starter Capacitor but appears to be in running condition. Here's on on ebay currently. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ram-Air-80-...ultDomain_0&hash=item1c26e7eeac#ht_329wt_1162 From looking at the pictures, it looks like the compressor pump is a similar unit used on other air compressor brands.

yes Tom that is the twin to mine. it's a real workhorse and the reed valves suffered from metal fatigue. [over twenty five years of use in my restoration business. it has kept my pot sandblaster and glass bead cabinet running all day at times. at one time i had four employees doing both bodywork and repairs.
if i could just find the parts i would be back going.

do you have any part numbers on yours? model serial number? mine only has a tag on the side of the pump with a number that doesn't seem to help.

I have the same compressor. The pump is a Campbell Hausfleld. I bought reed valves for it from Grainger. Same as their Speedair.

I'll check tomorrow but the compressor actually looks similar to all the other major brand names. Gearbuilder is right. Also, RamAir was sold by Snap-on. I picked mine up for 159 buxs. That was what was left in my wallet and I just bought a Hoffman Monty tire changer off the fellow when I spotted the compressor behind the shop. Apparently the owner bought a new 80 Gallon compressor and wanted this gone. He also offered me a snap on twin piston midrise lift, but I was out of cash and room in the truck. Will be back for the lift though.

In the ebay link, the compressor pump is a Campbell Hausfeld TF-5 2 stage compressor pump capable of producing 175PSI and approx 18CFM. Most important is the valve plate. It is the original style. Campbell has been thru 4 design changes.

thanks Bob, Tom and Jamie, the reed valves on mine are shaped like a light bulb.
i never thought of checking grainger!
i bought the compressor when it was a couple years old from a co-worker who only used it for side work at night so it did not get used much. he needed to get money to escape a girl friend situation:3gears:

ok, so far i found my original style valve plate is no longer available, but they sell the whole valve assembly for $416 ouch! i can buy the whole pump to the door for $800. so i decided to plumb an old roll-air compressor into my tank until i come up with a solution. i decided to plumb it into the original spot my old pump was plumbed, which meant i had to remove the fitting in the top of the tank. this fitting was a one way valve and was full of debris so i decided to put clean it up and put the compressor back together and see if it still works. the reeds are missing on the second stage and probably have been for a while so it will buy me some time.

You can buy a complete updated head/valve plate assy from any reputable campbell hausfeld dealer for under 299. That is head/valveplate/both gaskets and new head bolts. Then you will be current with today's stocked head parts.

the ramair compressor was made by powerex inc. a sister company of campbell hausfeld . Parts can be obtained for this unit by using the powerex pump number CS300P. the valve assembly is available as part #ip006900av for $259

Sorry to revive a thread thats over a year old but I'm in the same boat. I've got a Ram Air compressor but mine needs a complete pump! I came home one day to find the motor running and one piston on the ground by my work bench. I believe the pressure switch failed. Anyways does anyone have any idea where I can locate a replacement? I've had no luck so far
