Ramp for car?

Here's the situation.

I bought a different house that has what you may call a single car garage, it's 16 feet long by 10 feet wide, but the height is 6 feet. Now, I'm going to build a 24 by 24 foot garage right on that end of the house. I have a 62 Ford Galaxie that I have collectors car insurance on and it must be garaged. The car weighs right at 4K pounds. The problem is the yard is on a slope and the end of the new garage that will connect to the old garage will be 4 feet lower. I would like to just store my Galaxie in the old garage and use the new for my truck and car. What kind of ramp would work that I could drive the car up it and then slide the ramps under the car so they would not stick out into the new garage. Or am I just dreaming it can be done?

X2 call for sketch. The way I read it, you are going to have a loading dock sized barrier between the buildings. I'd be thinking about some other plan, personally. I can't envision a ramp that will get that Gal up 4' and you can still pick up the ramp. I vision steel ramps 8-10' long. If there is no other f'n way, I'd build the new garage with provisions for a 4 post lift, then use the lift to raise the Gal and drive off into the other area.

That is an interesting challenge. A 62 Galaxie is fairly tall. You might want to measure the height of the top of the hood and how far the nose sticks out in front of the front wheels. You need to make sure the nose of the car won't hit the ceiling while going up the ramps. It will take about a 6 foot ramp to span that height with a 45 degree slope. The type of angle iron ramps used on many car trailers would probably work, unless you have to make them so long that they become too heavy.

I attached a quick sketch. The old garage has a bedroom built above it or I would tear it down. Jeff, the nose sticks out past the front tires about 2 feet, I would be alright driving it in there. I know they make aluminum ramps that you can load vehicles with. I once sold a utility box trailer to a truck driver, he stopped to get it and pulled out two aluminum ramps 16 feet long. We hooked my then old truck to it and he backed them both into the box trailer so I know their out there.

The sketch is looking in the garage door end of the building. Hope you can see it good enough.

I'm just looking for options. I'm guessing the height is going to be 4 feet, but I guess I'll have to grab my line level this weekend and make sure what the actual height is. I may be way off. I don't drive the Galaxie much so I wouldn't be using the ramps that often.

Forum Member Web has a long, tall garage space (14' x 32' x 16'). He wanted to put a loft in the back and store a car on the loft using a four post lift. Quite similar to Bob's situation. Web has the lift. I'm waiting to see his loft.

I bought a set of 16' aluminum ramps off an old car transport trailer for $100 once,I took them to a fab shop to get them cut down to 8' for my trailer and ended up swapping the extra pieces to the owner for the work done and $100!My trailer at the time was 3' or better tall and i could drive my long lowered pulling truck on it with plenty of clearance

I had a set of 14' long aluminum ramps that were custom made by Landsport to get to the second level of my two story garage. Absolutely love them. Rated at 14k per axel. 15" wide. I'm guessing around 100lbs each, and cost just under $800

If I was to change the elevation of the new garage to match the floor of the old garage I would have to build a ramp to get into the garage door.

Those "ramps" are call a driveway

When you get a chance, take some pictures of land. The sketch explained your transition from one garage to the other, but damn... there has to be a way to get them at the same level.

How about chopping out the floor of the old garage, dig it out 4' and re-pour a floor???

I'll see if I can get a pict this weekend. I'm also going to try and put a line level on it to see what the actual depth will be.

I've attached a pict of the garage at the new house. I measured the drop from the floor of the old garage out 24 feet to where my new garage will end and it's 29 inches not the 48 that I thought it was. I have thought of removing the floor in the old garage and digging it down to match the new garage, but I don't think I would be able to go that far down. Don't think the foundation of the house goes down that far, may get a rock drill from work and see how thick the concrete is. Since it's only 29 inches I'll probably go with some aluminum ramps to get the Galaxie up there.
