Ramset Model 340 Hammer Drill - what types of bits does it take? - SOLVED!?!

I inherited an older German made Ramset model 340 hammer drill. I've not been able to find a manual or much of anything else about it online.

I bought some SDS plus bits and was hoping they would work with it. They slide in perfectly, but do not lock in. I checked out the bore of the chuck and there is a key for one of the slots to go onto, but the retention ball is located opposite of the key, so it is 90 deg off of where it should be if it were an SDS tool. I could drill using these bits, but getting the bit back out of concrete would be a bit of a PITA.

Does anyone know what bits are to be used for this? If I knew, I could look for an adapter for that to SDS plus.

Worse comes to worst, I could weld up the end of one of the slots of the bits I got, but I don't want to go there yet.

EDIT: corrected wrong model number

If older means really old it could be just the plain SDS type chuck. If I remember correctly SDS bits will work in a SDS+ chuck, but I'm unsure if the reverse is true. You may have to get a new chuck or look for plain SDS bits.

I wish I could find some good descriptions or images of the old SDS geometry. i find no images, and many of the descriptions are contradictory. Some links state that there is no difference between SDS & SDS-plus; others state that there were 2 slots in SDS and 4 in SDS-plus. Many of these links today are AI generated, so I thought I'd come to a place where there are still people. Gotta be some people around here with long memories....

Apologies everyone. I couldn't even get the model number right. It is a Model 340, not 540. With that, I came across a few auctions with pictures. Looks like the original bits were tri-shank, based on this post.

What I have must have an adapter that converts the tri-shank to something like the SDS, but rather than 2 full slots opposite each other and 2 retention cavities @ 90 degrees from the channels, it is one single slot and one single retention cavity opposite the slot. Same diameter bore as the SDS-plus (10mm), which is why the SDS-plus bits fit perfectly, but just don't lock in.

Seems like the adapter could be to some proto-SDS connection, but this is based on nothing I've found yet.
