Was out there yesterday after they had bolted down the boards around the perimeter of the house. The two pipes for the hot water heater come up right in the middle of the doorway leading out to the attached garage. Guess the plumber goofed. Guess some concrete is getting torn out.... It's almost kinda funny.

Are you sure the doorway is in the right place? Might be easier to change door location than to relocate all the plumbing. Either way the GC for this job needs to get with the program. Better get him on the right track now, before anything else happens.

Unless the break out is pretty small, I would seriously consider capping off those water heater lines under a door sill. Then reroute the lines to/from the water heater through the walls/attic from the nearest above slab connection.

I know it is too late for your slab but.... The most important time for the owner to be on the job site is the day before the slab is poured. You need a detailed set of floor plans and a good tape measure. Make sure everything about the slab (e.g. beams, plumbing, electrical, brick ledges, etc.) makes sense and measure everything twice.

Sounds like your builder does things like mine. Our house is slab on grade and they missed the locations of 2 conduits, 3 water supply lines (hot/cold to sink, and icemaker), and the drain line for the kitchen sink. They also missed the location of 2 conduits in the laundry / utility room and 3 conduits where they feed into the panel.

The kitchen worked out better than originally planned since the sink is in a peninsula. With an angled sink base cabinet in the corner, the drain line now exits into the wall instead of going into the floor and blocking the back of the cabinet.

I want to say that everything was cut flush with the slab and filled with non-shrink grout.

They'll have the plumber back out to figure something out. The door goes from the laundry room into the garage, so not enough room in the wall to move the doorway one way or the other.

It's not a big deal, I think it's kinda funny actually. And the builder is my father in law, so definitely not gonna fire him. He's worth thousands more than the $0 we gotta pay him.

i hope if anything comes of this is that you become more aware of the placement of things before major events take place such as drywalling and making sure everything is right :)
