Random Snap On box question...

I didn't get a chance to take a pic, but bear with me....

Local shop has a Snap On top box/cabinet, with a lockable front flip down door (completely encloses the entire front of the box, hiding the drawers). It has 5 "wide" drawers, and then (I think) 4 narrow width (but deep) drawers to the side. There is a separate lockable flip up portion in the top, but is all enclosed with the top down. Its not as wide as a standard 44/52" top box, almost looks like a road box??

Anyone familiar with this particular model? Its a Dale Earnhardt edition, which I care nothing about, just interested in finding out more about the box itself.

Close, but I think the top covered everything on this one (even the smaller drawers).

I also believe the smaller side drawers were deeper than the wide drawers...

Same box as the one pictured, the newest version had the full one piece lid. Nice box. Is it somthing you're buying or just curious about?

Probably a KR637, popular box in the 90's. i have a old catalog if you need the size or weight.

sounds like a KR637 it has the full width front cover.
the KR537 had the door covering the side drawers and a narrower drop front.

Yep, I thought the same. The 637 has the lockable area on top. 5 wide drawers and 5 smaller drawers. All are the same depth, however. About 33" wide IIRC. Built like a tank. I've seen several Earnhardt boxes that were 637s.

I just picked up a similar box to the one you’ve described. This particular one is a 65th Anniversary box from 1985, but I believe the structure is the same, sans graphics.

I’m not sure of the quality - the drawer slides are mediocre, and the fit and finish aren’t really what I’d expect from SnapOn.

i'll take SO old friction slides over and above anything thats made today.

the red boxes in my pic have all the original slides in them, i believe the roller cab is a '73

ive replaced i set of friction slides in my "work" boxes i bought new in '86. that drawer was stacked deep with pullers and puller parts.

That's a KR 537. I believe the 637 replaced it.

I agree with Crew Chief, those friction slides in the older boxes are high quality. If you take care of the box they'll last a long time. Several of my old SO boxes from the '80s have their original slides.

as a side note, the KR 537/637 is my least favorite of all the boxes ive ever had...
i just hate those damn little drawers.

I like them too.

The KR 533, I believe, is the same as the 537 without the drawers on the right side.
