I recently aquired a Ranger R1000 wheel balancer from CL for $50. The unit was from a single owner in a residential setting, it was made in 2002 and is in pretty good shape other than the fact that it doesnt calc accurate weights and the solution is not repeatable. The owner explained that it worked great for 6 years and started to give him trouble a couple of years ago, so he simply set it aside and got a new machine. At this point he just wanted it out of his way and I jumped hoping for an easy fix.
I contacted Ranger/BendPak and they where not much help other than to say that I can only buy the boards as a complete set in the form of a "service kit" for $800 which is more than I want to invest given that I dont know for sure what is actually wrong. They dont have a service manual(only an owners manual) and they don't have any electrical schematics which is hard to believe. I did replugged all the connectors and ran it though its self cal mode but the symtoms remain. Other than erronous solutions the thing seems to be working at a pretty high level, ie all the lights works, all the keys work, the tire spins and stops and it indicates the desired location for weights.
Any one have this unit and/or any experiance fixing them? I am very good with electronics but without schematics it not an easy task.
