After carefully reading the exceptions on my 20% off coupon I attempted to buy an air brush kit with an included small compressor. While not excluded on the coupon, there's an additional list at the check out counter that lists any compressor as off limits to the discount. Since this kit included said compressor, I was told the discount didn't apply. I find that a dodge that *****. I hope they aren't going the way of other retailers that make it very difficult to claim advertised discounts. I'm thinking the bloom is off the flower at HF.

I can understand your frustration.....but I have always understood that the 20% coupon did NOT apply to compressors and the like.....

You used to be able to use them on anything. It was either Oct. or Nov. 2010 they changed policies, that's why the coupons don't reflect it. Not sure why they don't print a new coupon, I guess to draw in customers. they placed signs around the store, near the items affected though. Air compressors, toolboxes, jacks... basically anything that can't be put on the shelf.

even if you knew about the compressor exclusion... my first thought would be that the smallish compressor with air brush would not be included.... thinking they surely would be meaning the larger 3 to 5 horse compressor.. and the plastic welder thing really suprised me too... they sure seem to be reaching on some of this stuff.
i hate it when a store/anyone "reach" like that, its like lying

On 08NOV2010, Harbor Freight issued an in-store policy corrections on the 20% off coupons. It states that the coupon is no longer valid on air compressor, welders, jacks, tool boxes, open box and clearance items, Campbell Hausfield products, outdoor tent events, and blowout sales. I'm sure I'm forgetting something else. Anyway, the reason they done the in-store correction and not change all the coupons out is because they (corp, not me) spent a lot of money in making the coupons, distributing them out to magazines and newspapers way before they thought about the "CHANGE". It was easier for them, and legal, to just issue the corrections. IMHO, I would have never done it like that. It is ******* off a lot of customers and making the store employees look bad and getting the **** end of the deal. If you would like a direct line to call in and voice your opinion, I'll be glad to write it down tomorrow and post it for you. It will bypass the normal customer service and put you through to the complaint dept for the coupon correction.

I think that if 20% off will save you more than about $2, the coupon is probably disallowed. It seems like it is only good on things that are so cheap that 20% is hardly worth cutting the coupon out for.

I used one to get the red cart a couple weeks ago. The kid at the register said no good on tool boxes, but gave it to me anyways. He didn't think that the cart was a "box". He was cool he was getting a lot of sh*t from customers when his register went down while I was waiting for them to pull the cart up front. I told some dude off that was complaining about no free flash lights left.

Yes, give us the number. It may not do any good but at least we'll be able to share our dismay at an otherwise neat place. I save up my coupons for the hour drive to the nearest HF, but that's not going to be the case if the twenty off devices are worthless.

I bought one of the multi-drawer side boxes late last year with the coupon. Happy I did now as that would no longer be permitted today.

When I got my Motor Trend this week, I notice that the HF coupon in their ad now lists compressors, etc. as being off limits. I'm a bit put off they didn't honor their earlier coupon which would not have bankrupted them as they all have an expiration date.

It seems like it was misadvertised. I would contact them about it.

You saved yourself some frustration in the long run. What ever you buy there is good for three or four uses then breaks. Maybe call and thank them.

While they are pretty sucky on the restrictions on the 20% off coupon, they have been very flexible about allowing computer generated coupons. I have gone in with really lousy printouts of ads, and they honored them no questions asked. I am not sure other companies would be this flexible.

So its kind of a mixed bag at HF.

I agree that it is their decision. It really has made their products less attractive to me. If the price difference between them and mainstream products, I will buy less of theirs. Honestly, I am a sucker for a deal, so without the deal, I probably just buy less period. Which is good.

Really?

I have not had any problems with impact sockets, breaker bars, a transmission jack, nitrile gloves, welding helment, welding gloves, wrenches, a generator, recip saw, a welder, ball peen hammers, and many other things.

I did have an issue with a comealong (POS), ratcheting binder (they screw not rachet) and the 4 for $10 rachet straps. Returned them all for a refund.
