The US is 15th. Canada got serious 25 years ago and put in some common sense policies. For example a HS teacher teaching math has to have a math degree. Then they have to get a teacher diploma. They are paid a the Master level. When I went to school the teacher was reading the book before they taught the subject next day. The same applies to science, chemistry, PE, Art, English. You have to love your topic to have gotten a degree in these areas. They bring their knowledge skill and love to the room
I hear stories in the US about teacher leaving because of wages. I hear comments that they make too much money and only work short hours. You're hemorrhaging talent.

The world is supper competitive. Don't blame teachers. Roast the politicians to make sure that education is fully supported. Support change like the current foot pond change and embrace it that emphasis on STEM will employ your children and grand children.
