Haven't used that exact kit but I have been using that style of piping for since 1987 - 20 years.

It looks like someone has taken the time to assemble the components into a kit form and added some conveniences - like the pre-plumbed air outlet.

The basic piping system has been around in industry for a long, long time and is proven.

What looks amiss about the whole thing to me is the absence of any references as to built to, or designed to standards. Mind you, I am not throwing stones at it, but I would call it suspect for a business application unless there were manufacturers data to compliance with applicable standards (which we have beat to death in the past) it just seems that normally when such a product meets Ansi standards and the like most vendors like to trumpet that aspect of the product. However, in no way am I saying it is not a proven system etc... Just looks a bit off to me.:headscrat

I believe that 1/2" is quite restrictive when you start going long distances. I would like to see this also offered in a 3/4" kit for larger garages. Today, it isn't uncommon to see 4 or 6 car garages that are used for more than just storing the automobile.

The size limit on that system is 1/2". I have never seen it available larger from any of the manufacturers, such as:

Legris: http://www.legris.com
Parker: http://www.parker.com/ead/cm2.asp?cmid=4055
Hofman: http://www.hofmannfluidpower.com/fitting/push-in-fitting.htm
SMC: http://www.smcusa.com/sections/products/fittings_tubings.asp

This basic type of fitting has been used on machinery in industrial environments for at least 25 years that I am aware of. It is also used in air brake systems on tractor trailers and is available in a DOT approved configuration.

Here is Legris' industrial, large diameter system:

I believe Legris was the first company to make this "push-to-connect" fitting and tubing system, but now there are many, many companies in that arena. They have a lot of accessories and make the life of a systems designer a lot easier. New stuff is coming out all the time and a lot of valves and components are available with this style of fitting built right in to the component.

These fittings and the tubing are available through MSC or McMaster-Carr. The tubing can be purchased in a variety of colors, too.

Here's a link to other places to purchase:

http://www.fittingsandmore.com - lots of other fittings too

The larger manufacturers conform to specific SAE standards for these fittings. I don't know about the lesser known brands, but I would assume they do too.

I got a '67 Chevy truck with an air bag suspension under it with a ton of the Parker Presto-Loc (push-to-connect) fittings in it. My system is routinely pressurized to approx. 200 psi and never had an issue.

It helps that I worked for Parker Hannifin for over 10 years. Costs are way reduced when you work in the plant that produces some of their fittings. :D

Just installed one of the kits from Rapidair www.rapidairproducts.com.

It really worked out nicely. I have some mounted inside the walls and even one on the ceiling to air my hose reel by my hoist. It did run all my air tools just fine in my 40 x 40 garage. I had it up in an afternoon which is great since I have been meaning to put up pipe for a long time now. I just got tired of dragging all my air hoses around the shop.

Any do it yourselfer guy would have a blast.
