It kind of looks like those are special proprietary little mf's, have a general kit and metric kit but it appears they are not the same. Anyone been thru this?
i haven't rebuilt a rapid reel but i have rebuilt all of my air reels. the retracta's are easy as they take standard o rings but the other reel's took a couple of odd o rings that i bought from allegheny o ring in york pa. hope this helps
We tried several schemes, hence the post here. I was just curious if anyone had come across this or I am missing something, I might put a new swivel on it if I got one somewhere or next time I hit the fluid air store. I probably should have lubed it with silglide some time back. I have 2 of these reels, not sure they are any better than the generic version.
We actually do have some of those o-rings still in stock, however, you wont find them in the Replacement Parts section of our website https://www.rapidreel.com/ as they were discontinued back in 2005. Call our Customer Service hotline at 1-866-523-2363 (toll free) 8am to 5pm CST, and we'll be happy to get you the o-rings you need. Best regards.
Once stock is depleted...which won't be for awhile.....the same o-ring can be purchased from McMaster Carr. Here are the McMaster Carr item numbers for each of the internal seals:
On the exploded view in previous post...the pressure seal is item #10, backup rings are item #9 and the dust seal is item #11. In most situations, it is unlikely that the backup rings would need to be replaced. Eley Corp currently has stock on the pressure seal only, which is usually the only seal needed for successful repair.
Well thank you very much, fine service. I will look closer also, it was dark and I didn't have glasses, in a hurry, I saw cracked o ring and maybe assumed that was the issue, etc and didn't consider I might have even had a drawing if a slip came in the box when I bought it. Very good, first rate job.
sberry, it's pretty easy to deal with McMaster-Carr, and their shipping is one of the cheapest around. If you put the part numbers that were posted above into the search box on their web site, it's a piece of cake to order. You can also call them, you'll get an English-speaking person with a clue, and I believe they staff the phone lines 24 hours a day.
I'd give Eley the business for being so helpful, but keep McMaster in mind for many other things. I've ordered many hundreds of items from them over the years and have always been happy with them. Grainger is downright awful in comparison.
I agree about the only use for G*****r is the catalog. Good to know about Carr, I don't know why just never used them, probably assumed they were about like the other company. Sometime today going to deal with this. As a user I like the reel, I like them in most cases better than a retractor. I use the 100 ft one though for shorter hoses, I had 100 on one and a guy had to be too fussy to get it all on, I didn't need it anyway and cut it to 80 or so and all was fine.
