Rare Craftsman sockets

I have what I think are very rare Craftsman sockets. Just because I have not seen many in my 50 years of wheeling and dealing.
I have the 19/32, 21/32, 25/32 Sockets in 1/2" drive in the Craftsman drive. I have 15/32, 27/32, 29/32 and a 31/32 in other brands. I even have Craftsman 4 square up to 13/16 but can not find the larger sizes.

Here is the real kicker. I have a 19/32, 21/32 and the 25/32 in the Deep
1/2" drive. I want to know how many have these or other 32od sockets in the Craftsman brand.

I have done a lot of furniture restoration through the years and I have restored countless piano's and they all seem to have square nuts in the seats and the old flat top school tables had square nuts holding on the legs. I have used all the ones I have. I even have old Snap-on 4 square sockets. I recently found a Snappie 1-1/16" 4 square 1/2" drive socket.

My Craftsman sockets are VV and G series. I also have the mid length sockets in the G series. I have talked to several collectors here on the JG that collect Craftsman tools and they have never seen the 32od deep ones.
I need to look up the marks for the years. My large 4 square are the old V series.

Anyone? ****** blazing saddles I got it to up load. I learned a new trick. LOL

You know the drill . . . . gotta have pics or they don't exist ! :D

:needpics:

The only way you would not know what a socket looks like is if you were blind but I will be glad to post a photo.
I have the deep 25/32 here in California and the other 3 deep ones in Indiana. Photo coming. LOL Sorry, I had a lazy moment. I just got release form the hospital and did not want to get up and move. I had a tumor removed from around my belly button and I am fat. It hurts to get up and down but then again it does on one of my normal days. LOL

I'm always on the lookout for these sizes, just to fill out the three sets of sockets that I have. 1 for the shop, 1 for the garage, and 1 for traveling. So far I only have one of each in shallow size, but I have a deep 25/32 on it's way in the mail. All are Craftsman series =V= in 1/2" drive 12pt.

These are really hard to find due to the age of the series I collect/use, and because they aren't included in most sets. Singles don't show up very often. Most of the time you see them on ebay, they are only included in sets, and the used tool shops that I visit don't get them in.

Here are some pics of the ones I have so far.

The come up out here in California all the time in the V series. There are millions of them out here and little to nothing rust it is so dry. Only if it is in a leaking shed or by the ocean does it rust.

Any 6 point socket set in 1/2" drive are hard to find. Metric are harder to find than SAE. I have never seen a V series 6 point in the deep but I am not really into Craftsman tools. I have owned and do own tons of them but I am not a collector of anyone brand. I just know that I think is rare because in 50 years of buying estates, businesses and holding auctions along with owning an antique mall I seldom see these and some others.

I must be going to the wrong flea markets !

I see you are way up on the east coast. There are at least a 100 swap meets here in California that run all year long. Remember we have over 40 million people in the state and that the state economy ranks 5th or 6th if it were a country.

10 days ago at the swap meet at the Orange Show in San Bernardino one of the tool dealers had thousands of tools. Hundreds of 3/4 and 1 inch drive tools and most were impact. He had over a dozen Snappie impacts and 3 spaces full of tools dumped on the ground. He is there every week. Over the course of a year you can find it all. Some weeks are thin but most of the time there are many people selling tools. As a state we might have more garage sales than you do people in your state. LOL Not quite but close. LOL

Near me there is a woman with 3 huge thrift stores and all she does is buy mini storage units. I have gotten machinist tools, construction tools and equipment for pennies on the dollar. It has been like taking candy form a baby but things are drying up in her stores. This state has been hit very hard in this area and everyone has sold off or moved away. It has been hit almost as hard as Detroit. I grew up there back when it was a beautiful place to live. When I go to Australia I can't find squat so don't fell bad. Americans have more stashed in their attic, basements, garages and mini storages than the rest of the world is using. We are insane on how much we spend and don't save. LOL You live in a beautiful place but from what I hear you are not the only one that can't find tools there.

I have relatives out in Cali, but I could never go to visit. The ocean is on the wrong side of the beach, it freaks me out. I'd end up in Vancouver trying to get to Tijuana. :willy_nil

Yes they are very rare and I only find them in Indian and the mid west. Don't see many out here. I think the linemen used them for the phone and electric company. I have a friend who buys old surplus form both and he gets a lot of corner braces made by miller. Some are brand new. 25 years ago the brought $100 now you are lucky to get $25 and I have a box full of them in my store.

No worries mate. I go to Australia every year and I feel the same way but the beaches are nicer than any we have her in this country.
Mexico and Vancouver are 1800 or miles apart. If you made the mistake of ending up in Vancouver you would be in one of the worlds most beautiful cities. A nice place to get lost in. I would not go to Mexico with an armored tank division. It has always been corrupt and it is getting worse every year. I have been to the Mayan ruins and it is beautiful. That was 20 years ago. Never again. The middle east is safer. They are all bad guys there. In Mexico you never know which good guy is bad. LOL

Square nuts, you say? Here's what you need...

8-point, double square sockets. I encounter square nuts a lot removing old garage doors. These, in the picture, are from Gray Canada.

I have a 19/32" 1/2 drive in the old BE Craftsman series. I inherited them from my Grandfather who was a Ford mechanic/service manager/service instructor and apparently some older (50s/60s) Fords used those larger 32nds sizes. Actually the old BE stuff is all I have for SAE 1/2" drive, with a couple of -V- series sockets to fill the gaps.

I also periodically see the -V- series stuff in pawn shops. Not necessarily rare, but just uncommon, as they likely dropped them from their sets sometime back in the 70s or 80s.

I wonder if they are British Standard sizes...

british standard sizes are easy to spot. the size stamped on the tool will not match the actual broaching size. BS is the size of the threaded part of the fastener, and standard(nowadays) is the measurement of the fastener head across the flats.

a BS 9/16 wrench will look huge compared to what you are used to. it would be the same size as Standard 1" wrench.

No they are not a Whitworth size. Engineering has changed through the years. They were used when extra strength was needed in holding and not sheer. The bolts were standard and the nuts and heads of bolts were larger for things in tension. If things are in sheer you would use a larger diameter bolt. Whitworth is for old Triumph cars and motorcycles. Old British machinery used them before they went to standard sizes for war production.

Well if you can't find Craftsman there's always Proto. :)
Scored these pre-Stanley 1/2 inch drives at a mom n pop hardware store about a year ago.
