Rare Tire Plug Insertion Tool

Hello All,

I used to be an Auto Tech about 15 years ago. I worked for a guy that had a very special tire plug insertion tool. This tool only worked with the “Bow tie” type of plugs. This tool had the bottom part exactly like any other insertion tool but the top/handle part had a mechanism that slid up and down on the insertion stem and also grabbed and stretched the plug before insertion. I cannot remember the name of the tool manufacturer or where he got that darn thing from to save my life. I have scoured the interwebs for even a mention or picture of this elusive tool. I am hoping my description will trigger somebody to recall anything more than a vague description like I have. Please help! Thank you in advance for any information you may have!

We had one like that at the gulf station where I worked back in the 80s. It had red covers over the handles. it worked very well. The plugs with it were square with orange and black layers. We used Tech tire repair products, it may have been from them.

Just looked up Tech Tire - man they have alot of tire repair stuff!

That's cool. I like this tool because if you use rubber plugs it stretches it making it thinner thus easier to insert. Plus you clamp the plug about a 1/4 inch from the end of the plug so when you ram it in the hole it stops the plug from going too far in the tire. Works great also on the fiber plugs that don't stretch by using it as a stop.

Tech supply has a tool like that. But it will only work on their non reinforced plugs.
