I see ratchet adapters in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive sizes for sale now and again. Is anyone using them, and if so when? With all the ratcheting tools out there are they now obsolete?

Yep I like and use ratchet adapters/ inline ratchets. Could most people get by without them? Sure. They are like anything else they have a time and place. They can be very useful.

I have a 1/2 drive ratchet adapter i bought used for dirt cheap just to have. Never really use it. They are obsolete these days with the long ratchet options available today.

I have a few of them and never use them anymore. They used to be great for a lug wrench.

Agreed. They were used to make the breaker bar, which was longer than the equivalent ratchet, essentially into a ratchet itself. Ratchets are strong enough these days and available in longer length options. A nostalgic item nonetheless.

I use a 3/8 on my 150 inch pound torq-o-meter. They're a pain to use without the ratcheting adapter.

Same here. They're great at transforming a fixed torque wrench into a ratcheting version.

I use them with a sliding T-handle to turn taps.

A couple of excellent ideas right there. I think Snap-on still sells them, and there seems to be lots of used ones available.

I had a couple of Snap-on ratchet adaptors. I used them occasionally and found that I didn't like them. They are clunky, bulky and have coarse teeth. I got rid of them.

That said, they would be useful on a fixed torque wrench. All my torque wrenches are ratcheting, except the screwdriver type torque wrench.

Jbullfrog's application of using them with a sliding T-handle to turn taps is a good idea. I also tend to use a sliding T-handle to turn taps. However, I prefer not to have a ratcheting action when tapping.

Most manufacturers still make them but they need to make some dual 80's. I have Koken 3/8 and 1/2. They are both 44 teeth which seems pretty similar with most others.
