Well guys i appreciate all insight, really glad i joined the forum. i ended up going with the Wright 3427, did a little digging on it and its supposed to be an excellent ratchet, found one new shipped to my door for 50 bucks and there is a place to warranty them ten minutes away. and its USA made! so i couldn't resist
That ratchet will blow your mind. There is a short break in period. Don't be afraid to use it hard. REAL hard.

I have had good luck with all the major US brands I have tried. I think the Craftsman break because people pull too hard on them trying to loosen tight bolts.

Snapon for ratchet. You could also buy a 1/4 drive ratchet and have the gears/head changed out for 3/8 dive. That will get you a good length handle also

The SK 60 tooth beats out the Wright in the 1/4" arena. The only ones better are Gearwrench and Armstrong. Snap-On is a distant third unless you need LONG.Hazets fine tooth is great too.The Proto 72 tooth Facom palm control head is slick but far too thick for my liking.
The key to 1/4 ratchets is fine tooth with super low back drag. The low back drag trumps tooth count IMO.
