Hey Racheteers!

This is a shop-built display stand that a clever fellow made for his ratchets over at papawswrench.com; I thought it was drool-worthy and worth a post here. He turned down some inexpensive Chinese sockets to make the snap-in holders. Wouldn't I love to have something like this in my shop!!

Can't see the photos unless you are a member. I tried to register, but it wouldn't take a gmail email address...

That is clever! If only I had a mill and could weld worth a darn, I'd make one. That gives me an idea for the ratchet stand I was mulling over. I've got a bunch of 1/4" ratchets that I want to display. I'll buy a bunch of POS sockets and embed them in a wood rail.

Welding a bunch of old sockets to a flat bar and mounting on the wall might be a good way to store ratchets in the toolroom.I've been looking for some kind of solution for that problem at work.We have some 3/4 ratchets and breaker bars that are hanging precariously on nails in the wall.

Unfortunately for me, everything has to be locked up tight if I'm not there, so my autistic kiddo doesn't wander in and walk off with everything. I'd love to display things, but even my spare change goes in the safe to keep "Rainman" away from it.

Cool idea though.

That's pretty neat. I do like the idea of a ratchet rack though. Perhaps 2-3 disposable sockets in each drive size welded to a length of stock and then attached to a tool cart lid or pegboard. On second thought, I think I'd opt for 5 sockets, 2 in 1/4 drive (one regular and one flexhead ratchet), and 3 in 3/8 drive (regular, flex, and long handled). I'll leave the long flexhead 1/2 drive ratchet in the cart's prybar holding section.
The pictured one would be neat for holding and displaying vintage or unusual ratchets that aren't used much but, talked about.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if someone from Mechanics Time Savers saw this thread and came out with a magnetic ratchet holder similar in design.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but 2 of my 7 kids are on the autistic spectrum, and sometimes it's a matter of either laughing or crying...I'd rather laugh.

Problem is that you would have to keep fiddling with the ratchet square drive so that it will line up perfectly with the holder - otherwise the handles will crash into each other.

A great idea well executed,
but if I made one I'd use sockets with a hole in them to keep the detent ball spring from getting compressed over time.

Actually, wouldn't you just have to get it close, then ratchet the wrench handle into place? That pawl on the back of the ratchet works both directions...

Then this is NOT for you and Wrencher. Maybe you guys should opt for the polished oak ,felt lined Presentation box (s) route. LOL

Some enterprising fabricator on this forum needs to make some for resale and I think they would sell, given the nature of tool collectors. But on the other hand, they could only be marketed through the flea market circuit, cause isn't that where we buy everything.:lol_hitti

Yea, but this site is where you can market to all the tool fools in one spot, think about it. It would be like shootin fish in a barrel! :bounce:
