Hey guys i am trying to get a little more info on this ratchet that came in a steel bond socket set i picked up for $4.50! It looks very similar to the craftsman flying v ratchets except for the handle and it says made in Japan. Was this ratchet just copied from the flying v ratchet or was it made by craftsman. Thanks for the help guys!

It looks alot like the Japanese Ratchet I bought at a sale recently. The only thing stamped on it was the word "Japan."

The common thought is that they copied the design. But who knows, they could have leased the design from Craftsman. We'll probably never know.

Truecraft is a Japanese company known to copy American designs. I have a truecraft ratchet that looks like a raised panel craftsman. I used parts of the ratchet internals to repair an easco ratchet that was broken and the parts even fit.

OP my eyes are not what they used too be (getting old *****) could you please do me a special favor and take several close up shots of that box label so it can be seen close up. If I could make out that label better it would help me out.

Thank you "The Management"

Ok first step in the Sherlock book of clues is to find the company...but I can not read that label it looks like Dist. by Spartan ?

OP read the label and start doing a web check of that name that will give you a better clue then report back to us what you find.

I can't find anything on this company or this socket set. No sold ones or info on the company itself. I guess it was sold in limited number? I got it for $4.50 so i did good. I bought it only because it looked like a high quality set.

Looks like Dist. By Sparten New York NY.

My money is on the fact that it was made by true craft or it's parent company. It looks like a quality set for an Asian import of that era.
