Ratchet Identification

Morning team,

Just looking for some help today. I picked up this 1/2" drive ratchet last weekend at a local garage sale. It was priced at 2 bucks so I figured why not. One thing I noticed was the distinct sound. There are no markings or #'s on the tool. Not sure if it possibly had a grip at one point or not. Very smooth and seems to be a solid ratchet. I'll put it to use soon enough and share the results for a better idea. But right now I'm just hoping to find out a bit more about it, and possibly who manufactured this tool. Thanks in advance!

Looks like the direction selector mechanism is missing chunks and has exposed the internal workings

Looks old and cheap to me maybe Chinese junk idk. that was honestly my gut feeling and then I tried to figure out why I feel that way and the handle don’t got any knurling.

though maybe it used to have a hard handle that this slipped out of but since the bottom is thicker than the top I don’t think that’s true tbh because I think the bottom would be smaller if it had a hard handle at one point

thats just how it look to me I’m sure someone here will say it’s a 1967 SK that is worth a thousand dollars

it looks like a run of the mill asian mfg ratchet. more than likely had a hard rubber handle and the direction selector was plastic and has failed.

the handles were held on with some sort of rubber cement. it looks as if there are traces of it left in the one picture.

I’m wondering what the pin is next to the selector. Maybe the axel for the pawl in an SK style mechanism? Let us know when you take it apart. Almost everyone made these. Use it.

You're absolutely correct Snaparxon... Actually when I got home with the ratchet only about 25% under the direction selector was missing. I started to tinker with it and the other portion broke off. Thanks for your input

Honestly Mikey03,,, I thought the same thing when I initially seen the ratchet for sale. But I have to say I no longer think that. I'm actually quite surprised. I feel like a lot of the cheap ratchets I've had to pickup and use could be identified almost immediately, with a few exceptions. So I do agree with you in regards to that! But not only does this ratchet operate smoothly, it's consistent under load, back drag is comparable to some of the better ratchets I own. It feels really well made. Now again, I could be completely off on my own read, it happens. But at this point I'll definitely be surprised if it turns out to be a Turd. I appreciate the feedback.

Certainly, and I appreciate the input Etchase. I've owned some quality ratchets and I'm not sold just yet on this one being a complete bust. But like I mentioned above, maybe a bad read on my part. I should be able to tear it down this afternoon at some point. I'll be anxious to share what I find and get some feedback. Thanks again,,,,

I would bet that ratchet came with an economy socket set.
