OK,I want to take apart some of my older ratchets for D & C tomorrow and was wondering what is the best type lube to use?

Prefer to use something simple that I may have on the shelf already.

I generally hit them with PB Blaster to loosen things up,but figure something a bit more substantial would be beneficial....

Have used grease in the past and wasn't that impressed with the feel,afterwards...

I've used 10w-30 with good results. On some ratchwts it leaks out though. Super lube works well. White lithium grease. Transmission fluid has also been in my ratchets, by choice. Gear oil as well.

red lube of love or rll (permatex assembley lube). it works well in lower tooth count ratchets.

in higher tooth count sealed type ratchets marvel mystery oil.

many recommend superlube but don't care for it.

I have been using Lucas engine oil additive, which works great. I have been wanting to try some Amsoil assembly lube, have not ordered it yet. The Lucas oil is almost sticky like honey but super slick. I have used it for quite a few different things, even a door lock cam. I have used it on dual 80s and a 100 tooth round head with improvement, on both types.

royco 634e, but only cuz I have a gallon of it. Probably a little expensive for ratchet lube lol. Has about the same viscosity/consistency as what came in my matco 88's though.

I remember reading somewhere that during WW2 desperate Russian soldiers lubed their rifles with butter.

I have a Amsoil synthetic marine grade bearing grease I use for odd things because it has a good "stick" to it. I decided to try it in 2 ratchets to learn the difference in application. One I really gooped it in there and, as expected, it's a little sloppy. The second I used a small stiff bristle brush to just barely coat everything with the grease - very, very light film everywhere and it worked like a champ. I'd bet there's better, but I like this and the film really lasts.

I bought a snap-on half inch ratchet at a swap meet. Cleaned out the old lube, which looked like grease, and re-lubed with Mercury marine grease. Quiet and smooth. Not a fine tooth ratchet though.
