Ratchet preference

My favorite and go-to is my SK. My old Blackhawk is probably my second choice.

I'm just starting to build my tool collection after receiving a toolbox for Father's Day. The only ratchet I own was a Husky from a set in 2001. I just picked up a Taiwan 3/8in 72t Husky roto ratchet on clearance for $7 over the weekend and am happy with it for the time being.

I also have the cheapy Craftsman ratchets that came in the 108 piece mech tool set that has never seen any use.

Dual 80 fan here. Before that my favorite was an old 3/8 MAC.

I like my fine tooth ratchets. Mainly because they are newer and a lot nicer.

Dual 80's blow everything else away.

I won't lie though. I have a weird enjoyment using my 3/8 standard length sk round head. It's a classic man's ratchet.

The Dual 80 is tight and precise with no back drag. How do you get tight and precise with no back drag? I don't know but they did it.

My reach for first ratchet is a Carlyle 90 tooth 3/8 drive flex head ratchet with comfort grip. In 1/4 drive I like a Carlyle short handled 90 tooth comfort grip ratchet. I personally feel that anything over 60 teeth is overkill but, I like the thinner head and fine tooth action of higher tooth count ratchets.

I cut my teeth on old low tooth count Craftsman RPs and thought an SK was some super exotic ratchet. These days my "users" are US made 60-tooth Craftsman thin profiles, but I have the 84 tooth Premium ratchets to fall back on when working in tight areas.

I also have a variety of other pre-owned long/flex/swivel/etc. ratchets I acquired for specialty use when needed. Tooth count is all over the map on these, but I don't feel the need to spend a bunch of money to upgrade them to high tooth count models since they get infrequent use.
