I came across a good article on ratchet selection and maintenance on the Gray Tools of Canada website:

That's why there's that drawer marked RATCHETS.
Or multiple drawers

This article doesn't mention it but it serves as a notice why some of today's consumer-grade ratchets (Stanley Craftsman, cough cough) are not serviceable (no way to take them apart, at least not without breaking something) and probably should be avoided.

The well sealed non-serviceable ratchets probably require less service. I think stuff getting into the ratchet is a major cause of issues. I don’t service annually, probably every 10 years. I definitely would not call Facom anything but a top brand and they sell them. They supply Craftsman. That said, I didn’t buy the Facom locking flex extendable I thought I really wanted because it was non-serviceable. I bought another serviceable brand and never use the thing because of the bulk of the extendable handle. It will be interesting to see the longevity of the non-serviceable ratchets.

I won’t put a ratchet in my “good” ratchet drawer or in my cart until it has been opened up and greased.

I have one exception. I would, absolutely, buy another one if it broke… and they refused to warranty it… which I do not think that they would do…
