Very specific question...will a snap ring pliers with a tip diam. of .07" work with a 1/4 ratchet snap ring? I'd like to try for one pliers for all three sizes if it'll work (1/4, 3/8/ & 1/2).

Maybe I'm sheltered, but I've not seen snap ring pliers sized that way.

ETA: just realized you are talking about a snap ring on a 1/4" ratchet. I could see a ratcheting snap ring pliers be handy at times. Anyway, my bad. Get a wire or a number drill and see if it fits.

The best way to determine that would be to gauge the hole diameter in the snap ring. Do you have a random length of wire that approximates the diameter of the hole, and then measure the wire diameter with a caliper or micrometer? A wire of any type that just slides through the hole would be ideal.

I'll have to do that...I'm just not at home to measure, and what I do know is that many of these pliers are too big to fit the holes on the 1/4. I don't want to spend on something like Knipex if I don't have to...just need a tool for a job. The ratchet is a Gearwrench...don't know if anyone knows if there's a std. size for those holes.
Thanks folks.

My older 84T gear wrench snap ring hole is .082 on 1/4" and 3/8th. Don't have a 1/2" but probably not much bigger. Those snap rings are not that hard to get out. No way you need Knipex quality for that use

@Jbear
I can confirm this.
.070 fits 1/4 and 3/8 drives.

Those completely adjustable snap ring pliers that everyone says are worthless, work great for ratchets, and a bunch of other things. Not good for high force applications though. Buy the cheapest ones.

I have a couple pairs of craftsman interchangeable tip pliers, with the fiddly reversing mechanism. I used one to rebuild a transmission, which it did just fine. They're just a pain, having to switch tips, and keep from losing them. (that's why I have two pairs, I lost the tips for one. They turned up some years later.) I have fixed ones these days, but if I had to work out of a bag, I'd have no problem with the lang set pictured.
