with the inception of flex head and indexable ratchet-wrenches is there as strong a demand for ratchets to you? Other than long extension scenarios?

I've had a set of Gearwrenches for over 10 years now, and I work them hard. Never had one break or strip out. Even the small 5/16" size. Tough little buggers!
That being said, I wouldn't give up a good ratchet. With all the various accessories made for drive tools over the years, a ratchet/socket combination can do a heck of alot of jobs well.

with myself working in tight confined engine compartments I will attempt the flex ratchet wrenches first now for time purposes, and prefer a ratchet socket combo in more open settings. So dont get me wrong I understand both have their place.

Ratcheting wrenches will often not fit where a socket can. Ratcheting wrenches don't replace a ratchet and a socket in your tool arsenal.

If you're asking about ratcheting combination wrenches, I don't like those things - they're ugly.

I like conventional combination wrenches with a nice lean box end. ;)
