Ratchet?

I am normally a big proponent of Tekton tools because of their cost/benefit ratio for an amateur. But I have never used their ratchets much. The bulk of my sockets, extensions, wrenches, screwdrivers etc have over time been replaced by Tekton products and I have been very happy with them. But my go to ratchet (A 3/8" Snap-On Dual 80 comfort grip) went walkabout recently so for several hours today I was using a Tekton 3/8" quick release ratchet. I am going to have to admit that for me the Snappy is worth the money. The Tekton certainly got the job done, but it was no where near as smooth as the Snap-On and I had several issues with it changing direction on me.

Has anyone else had similar problems with Tekton ratchets? Should I buy another 3/8 Tekton to see if I just got a dud?

I am going to go out to the shop after dinner and search more, but what I expect to happen is to find my misplaced Snap-On as soon as I have gotten home with it's replacement.

I have to say for some not all of Tekton's ratchets there the same as what you find at Harbor freight just 1 example being these.

I was on the hunt for a replacement ratchet a few months ago as well and was looking at Tekton as well. I am not saying there bad at all.
I hope you find your Snapon I found my misplaced MAC round head flex ratchet under my work bench no clue how it got there unless my 2 year old walked off with it lol.
I have since gotten a used back up of my go to ratchets. It's good to do sometimes if you can afford it.

I have a Tekton 90t 1/4" flex. It's been a very good ratchet but I don't use it that often. Turns out I much prefer locking flex ratchets

I have three Tekton 90 tooth ratchets. They aren't my favorites but they're pretty nice ratchets for well under fifty bucks.

My go to is the Duralast 36 tooth that some say is a copy of Snap On. Never had a reversing problem with that one.

Some of their older designs were 'meh'.

I've USED many snap on ratchets. Matco was my favorite when working in shops. I currently have gear wrench 120xp and Carlyle. The carlyle are my favorite I've ever personally owned.

The old Tekton 72 ratchets aren't much to write home about. In fact I think they **** but, that's just me. The current production 90 tooth series Tekton ratchets are truly outstanding especially when you factor in price.

Just ordered one. Not the push release this time actually. And it only cost me $18.89 because I already had $6.11 in rewards.

For the price it is kind of hard to go wrong. I may still get a replacement Snap-On if I don't find my misplaced one cause I really liked that ratchet, but worst case scenario I have a much better 2nd ratchet.

For nineteen bucks, you won't regret it. Even if you find your Snap-On. When I get into a project I might have multiple ratchets involved. Decent second tier ratchets are nice to have around.

The old Tekton are ehh the new are great. So is Snap-on but my go to is always Matco for ratchets just my preference glad you found your Snap-on though.

Did this "shop friend" ask to borrow your Snap-on ratchet? If yes, nevermind. If no, then you need to go Joe Pesci on your "former friend". That's a hundred dollar ratchet.

If you were both working on his jeep, then that would make sense. But from what you posted earlier, it disappeared from the shop and somehow wound up in his vehicle. Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot.

So just for the record I was joking about the kneecap thing. He asked if he could use my shop because he lives in an apartment complex that has no area where he can work on his stuff. Not even a decent flat spot in the parking lot. When he uses the shop he has permission to use my tools. Kind of goes with it. The tool thing has never been an issue before, and I will bet it never will be again.

I bought one of my employees a Tekton 3/8 flex head. He said it's smooth and is quite happy with it.

I have one of their 3/8 bent handle flex heads and don't see any real difference between it and my other ratchets.

Chill man. Its light hearted. On topic, tekton ratchets are ok for the price, but around here snappy d80 3/8th run about 30 dollars at the pawnshop, so its not worth buying tektons.

It may sound crazy but I prefer my gearwrench ratchets. Bought the flex non locking soft handles years ago. Just installed the 88 tooth kits recently and are my go to.

Have icon 3/8, snap on dual 80, and old cman round head in the drawer as well but the gearwrench are my go to's. I really want to like the dual 80 and I love it for 1/4 and 1/2 but the 3/8 not so much

I got the non-QR 3/8" Tekton 90t, and I'm very happy with it. Fit and finish is excellent, and I don't have any excessive backdrag or issues with it switching directions on me.

Full discolsure though, I've not used the Snap-On ratchets, so they may be just as good if not better. But for the money, the newer Tekton ratchets are pretty damn nice.

Glad to hear you got your SO ratchet back. I've only bought one Tekton ratchet so far but the 90T mechanism is so nice AND the price is so low if I ever need to buy another ratchet again it's going to take a hell of a deal on something super high end for me to not buy more Tekton ratchets.

My friend isn't actually married, but has a cute girlfriend.

The new Tekton is supposed to be delivered tomorrow so I will definitely give it a try when I get it. Like I said in my OP I have been very happy with most of their stuff I have so I was a little surprised that the ratchet I have was so disappointing.
