So I purchased the OEM tools brand ratcheting flare nut wrench set. Could not find any reviews that were real, so I was taking a chance plus I could always send them back since I got them from Amazon..

This is my complaint https://www.instagram.com/p/BOOJqqyDwd4/

Guess what the plastic pieces on my 10mm broke after the second use.. Now they are still very usable and would be REALLY AWESOME if they simply used metal retaining rings instead of plastic. Who the hell uses plastic on wrenchs? Unless the plastic piece is not meant to be permanent only for shipping. But I can't find info on it. I'll try calling OEM tools today and see what's up with that.

I would have purchased the astro set instead but the flex head is what sold me on this set. Astro tools needs to put a flex head on there ratcheting line wrenches.

Anyhow just thought I would share that with you guys. Everything else about the wrenches are not too bad. WHY the plastic snap ring?

Are people soapboxing on Instagram now? I was hoping it hasn't spread from Facebook, that's the reason I stopped going there.

Thanks for the review.
I didn't find the plastic retainer too impressive.

No problem. it wasnt really a review just a first impression of the wrenches.

I called OEM tools and spoke to someone that told me to send it back to Amazon if its broken. Buthe didnt sound like he was familiar with the tool. So i asked him to have someone from technical give me call.

See i can't for the life of me understand why ANY tool company would use plastic retaining rings on ratcheting wrenches unless they are just plain stupid or it's not meant to be there permanently, but more so for packaging... I am thinking that these wrenches were meant to be a 2 piece design. The reason i say this is beacuse you can slide the ratcheting wrench section out and the actual ratcheting mechanism stays inside the wrench. It is still totally usable (not a fan of that design) but im not sure it should be that way....

Anyhow, im not sending the wrenches back because they do what they were supposed to do and they do it well, i will just have to try not to loose the wrench insert piece. Plus if i exchange them i will just end up with the same flimsy plastic retaining rings.

i wonder if i cut a slot in a standard ratcheting wrench would it stay together??? hmm

I guess i don't see where they are broken.......

they do have a Limited lifetime Warranty......

i didnt make a video of the broken pieces. This was me unboxing it and giving my first impressions, and predicting that those plastic retainers would break.

My guess is the plastic piece is for storage, so you don't lose the insert, and the two piece design is so you can get the wrench off the line.

This is my guess as well..It's the only thing that makes since.

But you can take the wrench off the nut spin it to the opening and get it off the line too.. They should have a video for this product somewhere.. I saw one guy leave a negative review on Amazon because of the same issue (after I had already purchased). I'm waiting to speak to someone knowledgeable about the wrenches before I leave my review.

REJOICE! I had the fractional set of these and damn are they handy when you need them.

I had been searching for the metric but they've been unavailable for years.

Well, someone else has stepped up and offers a similar set. They can be found on Amazon under brand names Anbull (ASIN B08RNCWYHY) which I ordered, and it appears the Loschen brand is the same and presently $5 cheaper at $155 (ASIN B095Y6G3XJ)

The snap ring is indeed steel, one pic shows the wrench hanging by the magnet of my carbide scribe

Complaints: the layout with an open end is dumb, unnecessary, and makes for too many pieces. I wish they had followed OEMTOOLS and just put a ratcheting mechanism on both ends.

Overall the ratcheting action felt good on all my wrenches. Flex joints are adjustable with a hex key.

What is soapboxing?
A long time ago, when somebody wanted to get their opinion heard they would take a soapbox (wood crate) to a busy street corner, stand on it, and shout to everybody what they thought. And big tech couldn't censor you.
