Ratcheting screw driver cap

I went to a garage sale over the weekend and bought a Red snappy ratcheting screwdriver in the case, but it is missing the cap. Does anyone know if it is possible to order a replacement cap for it? The screwdriver is red if that makes any difference. Is there a particular part # or anything for the piece?

Yes snap on sells the just the cap.

SSDMR4B1RTT is the part number. It will probably be a brighter red than what your screwdriver is, if that matters...

Thank you both I have one on order through the SO website. I also ordered the drawer removal tool that the local driver seems to not be able to find even with the part #.

If the red does not match, then order a black one.

I;ve seen that done a lot since SO does change plastic handle colors slightly over time (I;m sure through no fault of their own but by who supplies thier plastic pellets for mfg.)


I still respect how Snappy does keep older tool parts curerntly available though.

I hear that. I maintain a small inventory of end caps, adjuster caps, and a repair kit...just in case.

I ordered the new end cap, come to find out I have a "Snap on Racing" screwdriver that is a dark red compared to the bright red that was sent from Snap on. Is there a dark red cap?

Craftsman 86, there should be a date code stamped somewhere on the chrome shaft of that driver.

One number and it will tell us the year of mfgr.

That then will narrow down what year it was made and thus ID your red.

If that's what SO sent you you have to go used cap or black is my guess.

Only workaround is if you have a snap-on driver that may have NOS caps or know the super secret subfix for the part No. for that particular S-O offering that then has a secret S-O source for the cap. I've seen that happen.

That's the challenge when dealing with the special offerings or oddball S-O ratcheting screwdrivers when repairs are necessary.

Aside from jeffmoss26, member gj67stang is a guru when it somes to knowing all things snap on ratcheting screwdrivers btw. Might want to PM him too.

go drop the cap in hot overused oil or hot grease. then wipe it off, repeat until the color matches.

normal wear and tear will darken the cap when exposed to work

not to hijack the thread, But I had an older ratcheting screwdriver, missing a cap, so I went to my snap on guy and bought a new one. The cap that I had bought did not fit/screw in all the way. it seemed that the new cap was longer and the thread size was bigger.

The older ratcheting screwdrivers have a different type of cap like today's current models. Older ones had a rubber gasket that went with it. Today's models don't feature the gasket.

Ovalinaz, I noticed that too on a red/white/blue driver I have. A newer style cap does not thread in correctly.
