A nice ratcheting crimper will set you back some $$$'s. The only one's I've used are the Burndy's, although I would love to get a set of Knipex. I personally don't believe that a ratcheting crimper is necessary for the sizes your talking about.

Here's a cheap one at $200

The Knipex look very nice, but they look like they are $300 +

I think there is a link on the site for a toptul version under 100 with different heads and ratcheting. I am thinking of it myself and someone did a review on it and said the heads(dies) change with out tools I think.

TopTul has a nice one under $100. Its MUCH nicer than the $20 versions you find at the parts store. Has interchangeable dies, no tools needed. Kind of a cool feature, not having to undo screws to swap them.

The Knipex one looks very similar to the Matco that I have ($15 junk store find). I don't know who made it, (seen several similar) but would like to know (if anyone knows) where to pick up the other dies for one.

Toolnut recommends the ultimate crimper. I don't crimp nearly as many connectors as I once did, but there is absolutely no better crimper. I have the blue point version that has a 30 degree bend in it, but it doesn't matter. I've made 100 crimps a day for two weeks straight along with countless cuts. I've worn out every crimper (non-ratcheting) I've ever owned except this one.

I'm sure I made bad crimps with it, but I really can't remember too many save trying to use it on 6's and 8's.

It's a little off topic, but here's the ultimate crimper for the big lugs:

HF has a ratcheting many like, and a 8 ton hydraulic that seems pretty good as well.
