Pictures or I call bull.

Hmph. Think I'm full of it, huh?

Been planning a full blown post with decent pics, stats, etc for a little while (since closing in on 500), but I don't like being called a BS'r, so here's a teaser or few of ultra-crappy cellphone pics:

3/8" alphabetical, Action to Mac
3-8Action-Mac_zps5ab07885.jpg

1/2" Moore/Easco and New Britain sourced
1-2EascoNB_zpse1f393d9.jpg

1/2" Wright, Armstrong, SK, Williams and a few other sources
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a315/GPJ68/Tools/1-2WrightSKWill_zpsb65a05b1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 1-2WrightSKWill_zpsb65a05b1.jpg"/></a>

That's 3 drawers out of 7 filled in that cabinet. Can fit roughly 100 3/8", 50 1/2" or probably 175+ 1/4" in each drawer (only have @ 90 1/4"), and doesn't include the 40+ in the roll cab. Planning on putting the 1/2" alphabetical as well. I'm gonna have to spread out into the remaining drawers, 'cause it's a pain adding a ratchet into the middle of mostly full drawer alphabetically and shifting a s**tload of ratchets around... :willy_nil

And all those ratchets that look the same aren't - they're different brands, or high/low tooth count models, or some other difference - I don't count multiples of absolutely identical ratchets within a drive size.

Sorry but that's a dam huge *** number of ratchets.

Don't I know it...

Attached (hopefully) is a partial pdf print of the spreadsheet I'm keeping track of the model #'s on, to show the long list of brands. It's not the most recent update - it only totals 512 ratchets. A handful listed as individual brands are actually variations/evolutions of a particular brand (like S-K, SK, SK Tools, SK Wayne), but there's a good 100+ unique brands.

So you can't call bull, but what do I get to call you? :lol_hitti

17 if my count is correct, my 3/8 SO Flex is my bread and butter so I have a backup just in case... havent broken one yet!

BTW whats the love for comfort grips? I find them very inconvienent for almost every situation nor do I feel much "comfort" using them. I have 1 in my box and it rarely gets touched.

36" 1/2 Snap On Breaker Bar
24" 1/2 Matco Locking Flex 88 Tooth
18" 1/2 Mac Flex Comfort Grip
15" 1/2 Matco 88 tooth
11.5" 1/2 Snap On Flex Dual 80
11.5" 1/2 Snap On Dual 80
2x 13" 3/8 Snap On Flex Dual 80
13" 3/8 Snap On Flex/Flex Handle Dual 80
8" 3/8 Snap On Dual 80
4" 3/8 Mac 72 tooth

7" 1/4 Snap On Dual 80
4" 1/4 Snap on Dual 80
3" 1/4 Mac 72 tooth

PowderKeg impressive collection. Must have taken some time to collect all those!

Anyone heard any news on the release of the new MAC Pear Head 90 tooth Ratchets? I am excited to try them, used to be my go to ratchet before they completely changed designs and snappy came out with the dual80

Jeeez that's a lot. I don't think most tool trucks have that many ratchets on it! I've been using the same 8 ratchets for the last 15 years, Varying Snap On 936's,an old SL715 that still works mint and an SK 45170 and SK 40170. I'm pretty much loyal to those two brands they never let me down. Craftsman for home use.

The kicker is that I have less than $150 invested in ratchets, the first ones I ever bought are still kicking 32 years later. I am thinking about some new ones though.

Powderkeg -- Your collection rocks. I'm looking forward to seeing more detailed photos. I have about 40 ratchets and probably like my old baldhead Blackhawk as much as any. What do you consider the rarest ratchet in your collection? Which one is your favorite to use?

Naw, just "commitment"... or should I be commited?...

Just to throw out a couple more tidbits:

Less than 8% of the total are truck tool brands, with 18 Snappy's and 21 combined Mac, Matco, and Cornwell, at the moment.

Only have in the neighborhood of 25 to 30 "matched" sets in the three drive sizes at the moment, or roughly 15% of the total.

Only @ 8% of the total are non-standard length or grip types (long handle, flex, shorty, breaker head, hard handle, speeder, etc.).

Considering the above, this thing still has plenty of room to grow - the only thing holding it back is that I'm a cheap @zz - which is why less than 8% are truck brands, and virtually no current modern top-of-the-line high tooth count models (one FHD80 I fished out of da 'bay 'cause I really wanted a yellow hard handle).

Maybe 6 or so years ago (if memory serves), Moparhound went on a pic posting binge with a countdown (or would that be a count-up?) to see if he had more than I did (think I was around 250 or so back then). He did, but while he certainly had quantity, I humbly believe (then and now) that I had him easily beat on variety. I saw very few ratchets in his pics back then that I didn't have one of, and many doubles, triples, quadruples, or more of absolutely identical ratchets - I only count one within a drive size if I should acquire two that are completely identical. While an argument might be made against a few ratchets I've counted as different, it would likely affect less than 2% of the total.

I'd love to see some other high count obsess..., er collections with variety. I know there are some fantastic brand-specific collections out there like SnapMom's.

I have to say PowderKeg you have a grand collection. Never counted the amount of any type of tool I own. Maybe someday I can tally up the ratchets but wouldn't come close to some guys on here. I once bought a 1200 piece socket collection but I sold off most of it.

Need some higher tooth counts and the reversing is a pain on a couple, they got hosed down with Kroil as I was getting annoyed.
So, I bought two composite HF's (1/4 and 3/8) and while looking at Cripes, added the USA Kobalts to the pile for $20 (1/4 3/8 and 1/2). So, five new ones in and two old ones going down to work for the monkeys there to use as hammers. I don't want to grab them by accident, I'm done with them.

Would have to count but I've got a small handful of 1/4 and 1/2 drive. The 3/8 drive seem to grow on their own. Realistically, there's only 5 or 6 that I use very often. Then there are some like the stubby that are just nice to have when needed for a tight spot.

Only about 20... But I look at every pawn shop, flea market, and yard sale. Scored my very first Dual 80 (F80) at the swap meet last Sunday. IMMACULATE. Looks like it was only used once or twice. I asked the guy how much after I bought a 12" USA made adjustable wrench and a small double open end PLVMB from him for $3. He said well, I've been asking $40 but how about $25? I said how about $20? He handed it to me and sounds good to me! I kinda wish I had said $10. But hey, he was happy and I am too
