Today I was quoted $50Kish for a 40x60 Morton building, well insulated and sheeeted inside walls/ceiling but no floor; a little over $30K for the shell. How does that price line up with everyones knowledge ? Is Morton well-respected, and who are some competitors I should check ?

Morton is very well respected. But you dont say where you are located?

50K is a bit pricey, what are the options?

Are you near Cass County? If so, you should contact Moore Brothers Construction. 1-269-782-3957
They aren't the cheapest, but they are well known as the best pole barn builders in the area.

I'm currently starting a 40'X60' panel building. I've been getting quotes for about $15K-$17k for the building itself (no interior finish) using 2 12'x10' doors with 12' walls. But the concrete is going to cost me a lot more. I have to build on an unlevel site, and decided to do a 40' x 30' basement with suspended floor above. There will be a 4" flloor in basement level, 6" suspended floor with lots of rebar, and 5" slab floor in front. Concrete will cost nearly $25k. Around here (Southeast MO), the Morton buildings look a little better, but cost a lot more!

Was that spray foam or roll? How thick of slab? Were you happy with your contractor? PM me his contact info if you would use him again.
Thanks
Richard

Well insulated and sheeted inside means finished except for concrete.

That would be a good product.

Had a local contractor friend of mine give me a generic quote for a 40x60 shop building(no real specs) with one big door and walk in door to be about $20 per square foot turn key(including concrete and electrical) for an all steel building. Of course add more doors and customize the electrical or do someting different with concrete, or heating the price will probably differ considerably. Also he is known by everyone as being the highest around here. I am in rural sw Kansas.

Morton has a great product, kind of the Maybach of metal buildings, generally they are grossly over built, which is fine but is it necessary, I mean if code says you need a 30lb/sq. ft. snow load do you really want to pay for a building rated for 75. I would look up Ag building dealers in your area for other options, with another brand you might get a whole lot closer to your dream. HTH

Given the economy here in Michigan being THE WORST in the nation. You really need to shop around! Don’t be afraid to get a dozen quotes. Good contractors will have references you can check. check them!

I have a 330' x 110' in Denver free for the taking if you come get it. You must disassemble and transport.

Steel building? Wish I was closer, be great for storage. My 80x100 w 3 1/2 insulation, no doors no floor was 65K in materials including wiring.

Just a quick poke around says $15K+ for a cheap Menards materials package, so I can see where a Morton shell erected could easily go $30K+.
The interior work is a ton of labor, anything you can do yourself is gonna save a bundle.

A 40x60 6" slab is about 45 yards, x $100/yard is $4500 for the concrete, double that for poured and finished is a good place to start. Any footings etc will be additional.

All in all it doesn't cost much more than a new pickup these days and that depreciates into a piece of scrap in a hurry. With a new building if one can extend the life of a couple daily drivers for a few years it near pays for itself. I looked at hoist that way, payments on one new truck can be near 6 k a year.

I have about $23,000 in my 3780 Sq ft slab (5") which works out to about $6/sq ft. This includes sitework, 2" extruded poly insulation underneath, concrete pump, 6x6 mesh, 1/2" pex tubing, pouring and finishing. I helped lay the pex but other that that, the contractor did the rest.

Around here, Cleary is Morton's major competitor. Morton has always been the Cadillac of pole buildings but were pricey. Recently they have had to cheapen up to compete with Cleary and others.

Ask around and see if any local contractor's build pole buildings. It's not rocket science and it leaves one hand (morton Buildings) out of your pocket

Cheers
Steve
