Okay, My first post ever! I love this forum. I hate shaking paint cans, especially new ones. Looking over my piles of junk one day I thought I'd try to build something that would shake for me. The kids left a long time ago! Total cost was zero. I started with a broke down leaf blower and tore it down to the bare bones. I pitched everything that wasn't necessary. I then pulled the jug and removed the rod and piston and drilled and tapped a hole right in the middle. I used a 3/8 24 long bolt cause that's what I had on hand. Pushed the piston back in the hole and marked the top for another hole for the bolt. Blew the chips out and put it back together. (NO NEED FOR GASKETS) I found a sliver of angle iron and a muffler pipe reducer, cut the head off the bolt and drilled a hole in the angle. A spot of weld on the bolt and clamp and the fab is done. I cut most of the threads off the bolt, added some locktite and screwed it in tight. I had this OLD variable speed drill motor taking up space so that's what I use for power. Crank the drill on slow, clamp in the can, lock the trigger, open a beer and sit down. You can watch it go up and down if you really don't have anything else to do. A squirt of oil down the hole every now and then and it should last as long as the drill motor.

Ok that's kind of cool. Though I think that clamping the can to a sawzall blade would be easier.

The blade will fold in a very short time, fuller the can the quicker it will occur.

Ok, with just a blade perhaps. Though I have no experience with them, I have seen sawzall attachments for just this. For me, I clamp rattle cans in my pneumatic shaker.

Cannot be too thick the blade mount/socket is fixed. You still have to hold the thing. I am convinced it works for you, just not the way I would do it....

Just clamp a piece of 3" pvc in the pipe jaws of your vise and run the can and blade inside if you concerned about bending/flopping around. Probably easier on the saw also. Mike

I would think that if you shake a rattle can on a sawzall long enough it would do some damage, unless things were balanced. Maybe have a dedicated can for fastening to the other side of the blade to counter the can you want shaken. And have the two cans in the center of the blade.

That's why God invented Harbor Freight Recip Saws......
