I usually avoid Rustoleum products in favor of Krylon simply because the Rustoleum stuff has a recoat window of within one hour or after 24 hours. I bought a can of Krylon the other day and that paint now has the same recoat limitations, which I never recall seeing before. I'm wondering if there has been changes in formulation for consumer spray paints in general and if so, why. Does anyone have any information about this?

Krylon has had this recoat window as long as I can remember. Krylon dries really fast, but it will craze. Best to wait 24 hours after sanding before applying an additional coat.

Anyway, once upon a time, 'Krylon' was pretty much a fast-dry 'lacquer' type spray paint and 'Rustoleum' was a slower drying oil-based (going waaaay back, fish-oil based) spray paint or brush-on paint.

Nowadays, both companies have various products in spray cans, so you really do have to RTFM or in this case RTFL (L=Label).

I have stopped using Rustoleum after problems with clogging tips and slow drying times. I started using Duplicolor and have been very impressed with coverage, drying time and finish. A lot harder for me to find as my local Autozones, HomeDepots etc do not stock Duplicolor but AdvanceAutos is my savior.. Some of their paint is recoat in 1 hour or 7 days.

I'm a Duplicolor fan as well. I swear Rustoleum is still tacky 24 hours later.
