RBRT-like torx bits available?

SBD has hex bit sets with RBRT-like designs under Craftsman, Dewalt and Stanely branding. Actually they're like RBRT-lite, with half as many cut-outs in the hex:

Proto has the genuine article too:

I'm not seeing any "RBRT-inspired" Torx sets though. Craftsman does have V-series T-handles they claim have "X-tract Technology" (which is the same moniker they apply to the RBRT-lite hex sets). They kind of just look like Torx to me, but I might be missing the subtle details (is it the slight backwards slope on the ends?).

I was thinking about getting a new set of Torx bit sockets and I wondered - are there any from the SBD family with RBRT tech that don't have Mac-level pricing? I assumed there would be, but I'm not finding them. I just can't tell if that's just a consequence of my search skills - or if they don't exist. Maybe it's less significant for Torx than it is for hex?

Check out these from Grip Edge, they are the same as RBRT to the best of my knowledge. Torx bits

I don't use torx much but I have their hex bits and I recommend them to everyone.

OP - sorry, I did not see the bottom portion of your post where you didn't want MAC pricing level.

MAC tools; on their website, search R.B.R.T. star

There are other sets and varieties. Good tools.

Ouch. Those look the same - but I was hoping NOT to have Mac-level pricing. The Dewalt hex set above is like $50 Canadian rather than $250 USD.

I must have missed that part in your post.

If you have common sizes that you use, they do sell individual sockets, but if I had to guess it will be above the $50 Canadian.

That being said, in my opinion they are an excellent brand and well worth the money for the hex bits and G-FORS extractors.

I don't know your application for these, I use them professionally on heavy equipment. I didn't like the price either, but am very happy that I but the bullet and bought them.

There have been a few threads on this and IIRC the design is patented- I assume by Grip Edge. Mac was the sole seller for about the first year, then Grip Edge released theirs, and then the "lite" version filtered down to the SBD line. If you have Mac truck service, their price isn't too bad in comparison to getting them from Grip Edge since you'll have an easy replacement source. If the Grip Edge price is too much, I guess you'll have to wait, unless someone else knows more.

I wouldn't mind paying the Gripedge price or the tool truck price if they made in the US.

They're not. Unless I'm mistaken.

All 3 of my Matco sets said made in Taiwan and the MAC RBRT set I had previously was also made in Taiwan.

I don't recall GripEdge graphics or text indicating USA.

As a cheap ******* I am contemplating buying the bits at $5 a pop sold individually at the bottom of this link:

edit: inflation is real. These were $4 a short while ago, but they were always out of stock on the T25s.

I'm leaning towards the Proto J5239P set. It's NOT RBRT, but I can dry my tearful eyes with the $200+ I save - maybe spend some small portion of that buying the Laser/K Tool/Performance Tool damaged Torx screw extractor sets for extreme cases.

AFAIK the Mac and Grip Edge are Taiwan, unless something has changed. I have the Grip Edge metric hex set and mine is Taiwan made.

I don't know about the RBRT "lite" versions, but I'd also assume Taiwan, at best, or maybe China.

No current RBRT light Torx available from the cheaper Stanley B&D brands. Only MAC so you have to search elsewhere, I've also tried finding something cheap with no luck. Just went with a regular set, as I don't come across torx that much anyway.

VIM is not much cheaper, S2 steel bits last I looked.
This is just another one of those, buy once - cry once scenarios.

I have a ton of bits gathered over the years, as they get damaged I toss them. So far for my need have not had to step up quality wise...
