I have had a great few weeks scavenging various resources to outfit my home shop. We have really made an effort to organize and streamline the home shop since we are likely committed to staying in this house for the foreseeable future. So the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of acquisitions and reorganization.
Went to a local flea market Sunday and they have a section where people bring their cars or trucks yard trailers and are able to display things for sale for very cheap as compared to a permanent booth rental. This does a couple of things..brings out the crackheads...and makes them want to sell CHEAP so they dont have to take big things home.
Anyways...I went with the purpose of scouting some kind of work table that would suffice for the center of my 800sq/ft shop. I had little hope of finding something but within 5 minutes...on the first row we found this store display table work bench thing. It is 30x52 and the height is adjustable about 10 inches up and down. Its well engineered and very very stiff and weighs about 150-175 lbs. 4 casters with brakes on 2 of them. Bottom heavy duty grate and 1 heavy duty drawer. The top is some kind of white coated particle board but very solid. The white part has taken some abuse. However I looked underneath and the other side is coated and brand new. And I plan to put a nice slab of butcher block with some overhang on it eventually. The top and bottom square frams are heavy gauge and fully welded. Any screw in the table is designed to not carry much weight and would be in a shear configuration and the nuts are welded to the frames. Its really quite well built.
Anyone ever see a workbench like this? Am I correct assuming its a store fixture?
I didnt even get it in the garage and things started happening on it. Its a great work surface.
Couple other things I picked up lately.
Old ice pick with local advertising $5
Brown & Sharpe 0-1 mic $5
1962 Wilton $45 (spent money on paint and new jaws)
