Re: Rare Toolbox

I traded for this rare (at least to me) Canadian Snap-On toolbox. I still don’t know exactly what model it is. The one that most closely resembles it is the KRC-702. The box handles have the “Stanley Canada” stamp. 26 inches wide, (not including handles) 22 ½ inches high and 12 inches deep.

It has a double hinge lid that folds twice like some of the old “Houts” and eight (8) drawers in addition to the three partition top storage compartment.

The guy I got this from says his neighbor has one just like this, which he will inherit then trade to me. I just have to wait for the old guy to fall off the twig first. Both live just across the Canadian boarder in Minnesota, so it makes sense they would have Snap-On boxes made in Canada.

Re: Rare Toolbox

It's a Stanley box that someone stuck a SnapOn label on....

No, it is not. It is a Snap-On tool box made by the Snap-On tools corporation at their Canadian plant.

The Stanley company made hinges, hasps and handles for Snap-On Tools and other tool box manufacturers for many years.

I also have a KR-23 that has a Stanley hasp, made in the United States.

Re: Rare Toolbox

Anydate stamp on the box? I'm pretty sure I have seen that box in one of the catalogs on collecting SO.com, but could remember the year. I would guess early 60's.

The closest I could find was the KRC-702 (1965 Catalog CZ) I have not found the stamp yet. I've looked on both ends, the back and under each drawer and under the box itself. I suspect the stamp is covered by the paint. I have a KR-56 that is stamped on the left end but was invisible until I had it bead blasted.

Re: Rare Toolbox

Where do you keep finding all these boxes? Besides my rolla bench, I havn't found ****.

I have an ad on craigs list, two newspapers and one radio station (trading post) saying I will buy old/older Snap-On Toolboxes. I also have the same ad on this website and others.

Not sure yet, I may restore it next summer. Right now I'm just cleaning the tracks up.

Re: Rare Toolbox

Another day another box. Not Snap-On and not rare, but really in excellent shape. No holes, no big dents, a little surface rust but confined to the bottom box left side and every thing works as it should.

Found it sitting on the curb with three junk snow blowers and two Plano tackle boxes. I thought it may be free…..no such luck.

I found this on the bottom of the Canadian box tonight....I'm assuming it was made July 3rd, 1966. 46 years ago

Re: Rare Toolbox

My elderly neighbor has those same craftsman boxes in his garage next door and they are like brand new. He has the carry box too and all the tools to go in them. He said he bought them all at same time loaded with tools. Yes, I have been throwing money at him and getting shot down:)
