Hello all, I'm going to strip the 10yr old composition shingles off to the 1/2inch osb deck, due to hail damage from last spring. Plan is to recover with 26guage white concealed fastener 16" wide metal roofing on a 3.5/12 pitch with ridge vent most of the length.
The first material estimate I got had synthetic underlayment on the quote.
I've read up a little on this stuff and it looks like it might worth the extra $ over 30# felt paper. Any opinions on this new to me underlayment? Instructions call for nails with caps no staples.
Seems to me those nail guns with the plastic caps would be too thick to put under sheetmetal. I guess I could **** it up and hand nail all the underlayment.
Any tips on this project? I have never stripped a roof but I have done some small scale roofing projects with asphalt shingles before and I'll have help from my grandson(s)
Also I need to replace the broken plastic skylight bubbles with some real skylights.
Thanks for any help. Scot
