I'm not sure how detailed of a plan, or complicated of a shed you want, but personally I wouldn't pay for shed plans...

If you can use sketchup I can send you the drawing I did for my 12x12 shed for free;)

This what my sketchup looks like:

If you really want plans like Ryan has, then I'm sure they are fine..

Re: Shed Plans.

Nice shed Beemer. Beautiful.

To the OP, for a basic shed, the 2x4 Basics kits are nice. Super easy to follow directions, and the connectors make for a strong shed. They are metal connectors/brackets that you screw the 2x4's into it. If you don't have that Sketch Up program that Beemer has or know how to use it, I'd just get a $75 dollar 2x4 Basics kit.

It tells you what materials to buy at Home Depot or Lowe's or a lumberyard. And then you make all your cuts and label the wood. Then it goes together easily. I recommend at least buying a used miter saw. Could use a circular saw but a miter saw makes it much easier with more accurate cuts. Safer too.

Re: Shed Plans.

Thanks for the reply's. No I do not have/know about sketchup, but I can read a print. What I am looking for is a building/shed approximately 7'X12' or longer 7'X16'-18' possibly. I have saws and drills and hammers and screw guns so that's no issue. I just need to know how to due this properly the first time. I want it to look like I bought it, not cobbled together by a Retired Aircraft Mechanic.....lol.......

Retired Aircraft Mechanic, think of it as rebuilding a wing with plywood rather than Dope and Fabric.

Re: Shed Plans.

Having just built a 12x16 shed (well still building it) I would tell you to not bother buying plans. Theres enough free ones and you can use the same ideas as home framing to do it yourself. Go to a real lumber yard for your project and they can help you out too. I drew up mine on just regular paper but graph paper would work best. I know my lumber yard any unused lumber you can take back for a refund. Or if its a bunch they will come get it. Plus free delivery.

heres two good video series on building your own. Obviously you will have to modify what they do a bit to suit your needs.

Sketchup is free to use, so if you want to play with it, I can send you the model. There would likely be some local codes that would require changes, but it would get you close.

I just built mine like a small house, minus the plumbing and insulation, so it is fairly overkill...

I might even have some time to resize to your preferred dimensions, depending on what your timeframe is.

Re: Shed Plans.

If you have the room I would recommend going to 8' wide just to take advantage of the lumber dimensions and minimize waste.

Just frame basic walls 16" on center. They also sell 2x4 rafter brackets so you don't have to notch any rafters at all.

You can go to a shed place and look at some and take notes if you need ideas.

Unless you have a real constraint, adjust for standard lumber makes things easier and potentially cheaper, for sure...

The only ideas i got by looking at pre-built sheds were how not to build one...:lol_hitti
2x3 walls, OSB sides/floor, etc, etc...

I just didn't get a real feeling that they would last long...

Re: Shed Plans.

Try looking at a real shed company. We have a couple around here. Reeds Ferry is one of them and I think Eastern Shed is another. You want to find one that builds nice ones, not the box store cheap ones.

Go to the local big box home improvement store.
They will have a book display with 3 or 4 shed books.
Plans and step by step directions.

Re: Shed Plans.

OP . . . since you're in California . . . .
. . . . I'd start with any local codes/ordinances that would "permit" you
on what you can build. There may be sq ft and/or height restrictions.

+1 to build largest possible. Lots of good examples here on GJ of sheds built on runners sitting on gravel base (ie to avoid permanent structure that county could try to tax as real estate).

I'd avoid the trolley hanging doors as too loose to keep out critters. I'd go with small roll up door like a garage. Watch CL as I saw some when a storage company was tearing down stalls with smaller roll-up doors. Good luck.

You sir are an ***!!

I saw this post last night, and have honestly wasted about 4 hours reading every single post on that website!! ROFLMAO!!! :willy_nil

What a complete joke that shed was, but as I understand it, it's still standing??

I felt like I was watching a slow motion car crash.......I just couldn't look away!

I just want to know why you didn't warn of the addiction that would follow......WHY???

Hey Beemer533: Can you tell me where you got the hardware for your sliding door. The shed looks awesome and I intend to copy it with (if you allow)

Re: Shed Plans.

No problem at all! Copy away.. If you want the sketchup file I can PM you the link. I picked up the rail and rollers from tractor supply. I used their round style, as opposed to the rectangular one because it had the hangars welded on already. Let me know if you need any other info.

Re: Shed Plans.

I was looking into this last night.. I have the tools and can make my own truss's, but after looking at the 2x4 basics kits I will go that way. Those kits look to be pretty damn slick.

Re: Shed Plans.

You can draw it with about any program that lets you draw lines and boxes. 2D drafting programs are avaialable for free. Sketchup if you want to learn 3D. You need to draw it to make a bill of materials, maximize the use of whole 4x8 sheets, and minimize waste.
Remember rule #1: make the door bigger.
