Re use a tool case or junk it?

Does any one re purpose their tool case when the tools died or you just throw it away or give it away, any one have any ideas on re purposing it.

I reuse them to hold mostly consumables -- like I have one for multitool attachments, one for saw blades, etc.. Ones I don't need, I give away to Goodwill or to friends.

Same here.

A socket case i'll toss no problem as only specific socket sizes and sets will fit. A fairly open case I'll keep if I have a need for it.

A good, sturdy molded plastic case always comes in handy. Use a hot knife to cut the innards out if it's formed to the tool that was in it. Gives you a bit more space in there.

I've bought a couple on Ebay, as I like having cases for my tools. I'm glad the seller didn't toss them.

I generally don't use them, but I don't throw them away either. I've seen them for sale on kijiji here for $5 - $15.

I reuse metal ones; they make good tool boxes. Most of the plastic blow-molded ones are too tool specific for other uses.

A buddy just bought a metal one last night on Ebay for his Bosch rotary hammer. The drill was bought on CL--really excellent condition, with little use showing, but the case it came in apparently lived in a truck bed or a salt mine. REALLY rusted. A little patience and I finally found a NIB case for him--$38 shipped for the metal one. He's happy as he likes things "nice."

I typically toss the ones power tools come in, I don't have the room for the cases and I prefer to store my power tools in the large tool box drawers.

If I am transporting them I have the large tool bags they get tossed in.

Now all my diagnostic tools and "kits" (fuel line disconnects, suspension service tools, serpentine belt tool, etc.) all remain in the case.

I try to gut the plastic ones from my dealt cordless stuff of all the divider ribs. If they come out clean I line the whole thing with sheets of high density foam and use them for all sorts of things.... rarely used electric drills, or drywall screw gun that came without cases, one is filled with ratchet straps and bungee cords is in the bed of my pickup

I'll take any Craftsman mechanic's tool cases you're discarding . I've made 6 or so complete sets from my spares over the years!

If it's metal... i will repurpose... If it's blowmolded... it gets chucked into the pile of boxes I will list on Craigslist as a curb freebee.
