How about making threads read only after one year? Threads over one year old would be read only.

This would prevent digging up the past but, would allow a new thread to be started if someone needs more information.

What if a new member has something that could be relevant to the thread? Making a new thread to add to a conversation that's over a year old just because you don't like old threads being resurrected is preposterous...

Generally, I like this but there is a problem - what if it's your "garage gallery thread", and a construction project gets put on hold for whatever reason. A year later you come back to update it after some progress is made, and your thread is now locked.

Not only that, but some of us who haven't been members since the dawn of time may not see a lot of the older threads unless they are "bumped".

You have just backed up what I posted.

I think some threads / topics do deserve to finish, but how you determine that I do no know.

From a tech standpoint it's a tough one fellas. I don't know if I have the chops to pull that one off.

That's what the search function is for, although it doesn't like minimum letter searches like SK.

Most of the older members are gone any way.

How about make them read only only if the LAST post was over a year ago?

However the website software may not allow for this to happen.

I fail to see any benefit to this. Is this just because you see old threads being dug up and post being made. What is the harm in that? If it bothers ya just move on to the next thread.
