are there cheap scanners that read abs codes now? I have been out of the loop for a couple of years now, and a local hack of a mechanic claims that his el cheapo scanner will read abs codes..... any truth to this? or has the wacky weed taken over his brain?

There are some a cheap scan tool can't read ABS codes.1997 and down Chrysler products are this way,Done with the DRB III only. The 1997 and down Chrysler ABS system is a hush hush system made by Bosch. The next step is call Bosch if there is a code stored. This changed in 1998,most aftermarket scan tools can read the codes in Chrysler ABS systems.

The Innova 3160b can read SRS and ABS codes for many vehicles. It's on Amazon for about $195.

I have the 3160. It works great, but make sure you check what vehicles it will work with for the ABS. It wouldn't read my 2000 Grand Prix's ABS. There is a list of what cars the 3160 will scan for ABS codes. You may have to contact Innova. I am looking to upgrade to the Autel MD802, but it is pricier.
