Ready for inspection, is this subpanel okay?

I put this subpanel into my barn and just landed the last circuit last night. The feed is only 60 amps and the fat circuit on the left is for a welder plug directly below the panel. Any obvious errors?

Looks clean. (not a code guy or pro).

Are the wires going into the box supposed to have clamps on them? (you have what looks like bushings, not clamps. Every box I've seen has clamps).

Are the wires going up out of the box stapled within 6" (or is it 8"?) The ones going down look like they are, not ones going up do not (but picture is cut off).

One item that helps in the future is to use a small bit of NM sheath to write the circuit name on it, then put it over the hot wire going into the breaker. Helps in the future so you know what is what with the panel off.

No, the wires are not stapled within 6" but there are romex clamps in the panel knockouts. They are the plastic kind.

With these clamps and in this wall, must I staple the romex? how close to the panel?

From the panel I go through some blocking within three feet and then the top plate and then stapled to a block on top of the joist in the ceiling.

Thank you for the input, hope someone comes along that knows the requirement for this.

NEC 334.30 (for NM cable) states that cable shall be supported within 12 inches of every outlet box, junction box, cabinet, or fitting.

One other thing, Highbeam, Depending on your inspector and jurisdiction, you may need to reidentify that white wire (the one you have a wrap of black tape on) entirely to the conduit fitting where it enters the box.

Panel looks sweet! Nice work.

I would have installed that panel with the main breaker on the bottom.

I may be missing it but I don't see the main neutral wire coming in from the top like the power and ground wires do. Neat work if you have it hidden with the other neutrals but you should make it plain that it comes in with the other main lines.

Only a 60 amp feeder on 6 gauge THWN between main and sub, then a 100 amp main breaker (disconnect) in the sub. I have LOTS of convenience outlets.

6 AWG is rated for 37 amps for power transmission. I expect the inspector will fail it for that, a 60 amp circuit needs 4 AWG.

The subpanel passed a year ago but with only a few circuits. It is a 4 wire feed from the main panel in the house. 60 amp breaker at the main panel. Same as the 60 amp breaker that feeds my hot tub with 6 gauge.

Not sure about the "power transmission" difference but the regular chart says 6 guage NM is good for 55 but you can round up to 60 so that's what I did and the inspector allowed it.

The white wire is there but is hard to see since it is so small. The more circuits I add, the smaller that the 6 gauge looks!

HuH? #6 THWN is rated for 65a[NEC 2011 310.15(b)(6)] Where did u come up with 37a? :dunno: And service entrance conductors(what I think youre calling power transmission) are sized on a different table AND they have higher ampacity ratings than branch circuit ratings! But a feeder to a garage IS NOT a service entrance conductor!

Well, yes, I did. What you can't see is that between the subpanel and the main panel I have a junction box at the house in the house garage where I used to have a welder plug fed by 6/3 romex. At that junction box I switched to conduit and thwn for the outside part of the run. So I treated the whole run as romex nm with the lower 60 amp limit. All inspected of course.

Here is another shot of what's going on above the panel. Based on the advice here I believe that I must install an additional block within 12" of the top of the panel and staple each romex cable to the block. Correct?

What is that green screw doing there. Have you installed that bonding screw making this service equipment? In other words, have you mistakenly bonded the equipment grounding buss to the neutral buss?

It looks like that green screw is on the ground bar only, bonding the ground bar to the panel case. Should be ok as long as isn't on the neutral bar.

On this siemens panel that green screw comes from the factory loosened and then you tighten it into the panel to bond the ground buss to the panel. The instructions even tell you to do that before mounting onto a wall so that you are able to get a good torque on it.

The neutral buss (on left) is insulated from the panel but comes from the factory with a thick brass bar that runs from one buss to the other. That bar was removed to provide the isolated neutral at the sub.
