Ready heater salvage

Snagged a little heater out of garbage at work got it running but a soon as you let go of starter button it quits no matter how long you hold anyone know if this is fuel related or maybe the thermal coupler?

Is it kerosene? They're pretty easy to troubleshoot and repair. It could be something simple as a clogged filter, nozzle, cracked tubing, etc. Here's a handy site for those: http://reddyparts.com/SP_tips.htm

I second the reddyparts.com site. Very good info. I've never seen one with a "starter button" but they do have a circuit breaker in the back of them, that gets tripped under a couple of different conditions.

You can identify the heater vintage and model partly based on the size/shape of the plastic housing on the back of the fan motor. There is a dry carbon vane air pump in there, to blow air thru the nozzle to siphon fuel from the tank and blow it into the combustion chamber. The foam filter rots and restricts air flow to the pump. I used a dry foam lawn mower filter and cut it to shape to replace mine. Air should blow out an orifice on the back, it is excess. If a bug (mud dauber in my case) builds in that orifice, the pressure will be too high and it doesn't work right.

+1 on this. Also check the air pressure to make sure it has enough as well as the alignment on the flame eye.

Make sure you have good fuel (drain the tank and replace) and make sure that the air filters are clean (note that most that I have worked on have two filters).

It is lighting but failing to stay lit because it does not think you have a flame or not enough flame. One of the items above should fix the problem without costing you a lot of money.

If it is propane i had the same issue found mine in the same location, on mine there was a red button you pushed while lighting and once the thermo coupler was hot you release the button and it is suppose to run wide open mine ended up being the thermo coupler due to the odd hollow tube set up you need to order from redi heat...
