I love the feel of the Mechanix originals, however I have gone through 4-5 pairs in the last couple years because the synthetic leather either melts from high heat/flame, or rips at the finger tips.

Any recommendations for Mechanics gloves made of real leather?

Mechanix make a leather glove. I think they call them "contractor grade". I haven't personally bit the bullet and bought a pair yet, but they do feel and look good. Interested on the input of others on this topic. I go through a pair or two of fast fit style mechanix gloves every month.

The CAT gloves are leather palmed, i love them and use them on the motorcycle and as a work glove, but they aren't all leather, so maybe not what you need.

I think wells lamont has them (walmart). They're not bad gloves in my opinion. I've had a pair for a long time (not the same style) but have required some repairs. I also have pairs of valeo goatskin gloves that are pretty good...not really for mechanics but I use them. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be willing to sell my extras of those and they're (the full leather model) pretty hard to find nowadays. Check ebay they're pretty cheap too.

Don't use work gloves for motorcycle riding!!!!
They don't hold up at all, ask me how I know...

Took a slow ditch while offroad riding, wasn't even fast around 10mph.
The mechanix gloves came apart at every seam.

So please get proper gloves for riding and remember all the gear all the time.

I would go through more pairs if it didnt take me so long to buy a new pair :lol_hitti. Usually I wear them until they just get too worn out then use latex gloves for a while, get fed up with all the busted knuckles and go buy another pair. Rinse and repeat.

I wish they had gloves with a lifetime warranty like the duluth firehose pants where I can just send them in and get a free new pair. The pants were supposed to be non-destructible and I have worn holes though the knees in a few short months.

Found these mechanic gloves also that come in deerskin/goatskin/cowhide:

The best? Kangaroo. But it's not worth spending that much for it.

Goatskin is what you want in work gloves. It's as thin as deerskin, but doesn't tear as easily.
Elkskin is a good welding glove because it's got a real thick hide that resists heat well, but is too thick for my taste in a work glove.

I bought some cheap MC gloves and they were coming apart at the seams after two days of the MSF rider course. Bilt I think? So I think the lesson is "buy good gloves"

The softest is deerskin. Usually yellow but sometimes black. "Driver's gloves" are usually the thinnest. "Fencing gloves" are very thick cowhide. You will find these hanging on the racks in general stores and gas stations in the west. HF has or at least had a nice glove with leather palm and finger facing and the rest was breathable cloth with a Kevlar lining. All of the above around $12.

Police search gloves run about $5 from the web, they are very thin and all leather. But I use the HF roping gloves http://www.harborfreight.com/roping-gloves-35166.html for low heat stuff, and the http:// http://www.harborfreight.com/3-pair-14-inch-split-cowhide-welding-gloves-488. long cuff welding gloves for the high temp stuff. The long cuffs have insulation which, and you can cut them shorter. For the thinner one layer gloves you can shrink/stretch them by getting them wet or heating them.

I was wearing them when i wrecked my bike unfortunately. They held up surprisingly well (no rips / tears) and were retired to my new tool box and old ones were brought out. I did obtain some new light-weight leather riding gloves from my dad with last winter, will be my first protective pair of street gloves since my first pair were massive Gortex wind proof rain proof riding gloves. (really **** during the summer). I had a bad habit of riding in a tank top, jeans, and nothing else for about a year, i wrecked wearing jeans, a T-shirt, and a wind breaker. I was extremely lucky not to have any serious injuries, Although i did obtain a nifty wallet-sized bruise on my ***.
I have been a bit less careless since the wreck, but i'll probably still take couple cruises on the country roads without heavy armor until i get my new track vest.

I ended up picking up a set of Tillman true fit gloves in goat skin.

Couldn't be happier that I decided to go to leather.

However, I have been able to wear a hole in one of the fingertips in about 3 months.

Need something even more durable. I would go Pig skin but I anticipate a significant reduction in dexterity if I do that.

Gloves are consumables, three months is pretty good life out of a glove IMHO.

I'm spoiled in that work supplies us with mechanics gloves (and good ones too). We go to the front counter/little retail shop, grab a pair of gloves that we like, and give the tag to our parts guy to mark up as shop supplies.

I LOVE Tillman elk and goat...however, I have learned to use them for "soft" use. I use the cheaper, but still nice leather ones that fit "pretty damn good" from the swap meet for "rough" work....Still wear through them fairly fast, but it's worth it.

Come to think of it...I should have my sewing buddy sew some Cordura 600d onto a pair of Mechanix and see how that will do. The Cordura will surely outlast the gloves.

Yep. You want the Tilman driving gloves. TILMAN 1418

They're cowhide but if you get the right size dexterity is good. My LWS sells for under $10. Last WAY longer than the goatskins. They run big, if you wear a Mechanix L get 1418 M
