Some stuff is good looking and some stuff is cool, this is definitely both.
I would rate that as shop worthy and living room worthy.

Dr,
I need another stand like I need another ********.
I've fell into a lot of good materials in the last 6 months and just can't stop myself.
The chain was purchased for a trommel and this was the remnant.

I think you should put some bearings between the chain and base to follow that race, making it a heavy duty lazy susan? C'mon!

The small area that you welded to hold the chain in place, will that be enough ? With the weight of the stand and the height of the stand acting as a weighted lever, I'd be afraid if one let's loose, it could be a (forgive the pun) chain reaction of welds breaking.

I have not welded the chain yet, only tacked it.

that may be my favorite one yet. reminds me of a bar I was at in New Delhi, India.

all the furniture, tables, bar stools were made like that; crankshafts, camshafts, cylinders from big engines...huge chains, all welded to table tops and stuff. cam gears on the wall meshed in a spinning fashion. was actually kinda cool.

you may think about selling those to some hipster coffee houses and make some real coin.
