Really cool old oval cabinet

I was at an auction today and picked up this cabinet.
Way too cool not to get it :cool:

Marked American Hydraulics Sheboygan, Wis












I will post more pics when I get it cleaned up.
I have never seen one of these before.

Anyone have any ideas on it:dunno:

I've seen something like that before, it was used with a portable hydraulics type setup IIRC. Kinda like a rolling work bench that stored all the components. It is very neat, if you have the room. How much was it?

That's bad ***. When you clean up the the logo could you post another pic of it please. It would make a cool decal.

Very nice find.
I think I would totally restore it and give it a high end paint job.
Then I would take it to my wood shop and build in a free standing bar out of it. It would make the perfect party bar for the shop or garage.

I have not seen one in 40 years and I did not even bid on it at the time. I think it went for about $35 if I recall.
Great find.

"Totally restoring it" in this case, would totally destroy all the real value. It's just DIRTY. Clean it, clay bar where needed, wax it and enjoy...

Dimensions are 17" x 39" x 32 tall.

Not exactly sure what I am doing with it yet.
I will post some pics as I get it cleaned up :thumbup:

I can easily see that being repurposed as a bar, without any permanent alterations. Just clean it up and wax it. Then make a butcher block insert for the top. With just that modification, it would be no trouble to put it back onto service later.

Yup, looks like the old hydraulic puller/press/portapower cabinets. Everybody from Blackhawk to SO made them ~WW2. Many of them had a small press and hand pump at the rear of the top. Cant find the thread now, but somebody here did a beautiful resto on a Blackhawk a few years ago. Personally, Ive been wanting one for quite awhile, but the complete setup always seems to bring $300+ in well used condition, a bit too rich for my blood.

i told u what it was 4, don't doubt the w-guy. find a john deere tool expert, they know shop equipment too. good luck.

Man that thing is sweet! The bar idea is great. and it would be of no disrespect. That cabinet has served it's tour of duty. Give it a comfortable retirement. If the paint under the dirt and grease is at least a 5 out of 10, leave it. Then build a beautiful top for it and doll up the inside and make it a piece of furniture.

I have a old tool cabinet from the '50s that I will be converting into a liquor cabinet soon
