Re: Really cool workbench and Carter Carb box!

Never seen one of these either. Seller wants $300 though, which I'd say is pretty steep?

My guess is the red one is home made from multiple other things including a few filing cabinets. The filing cabinet drawers still have their original hanging file folder rails in them. The two left rows - the top thing ones look to be the original slide out shelf that many older desks have above the drawers. My wood desk I'm sitting at has one.

That being said it looks to be done pretty well and would be a nice handy storage setup for some larger bulky tools but the slide rails on them are not going to be very stout.

The parts trays are really slick, especially the bottom since since you can reconfigure the spaces in the drawer. I'm not sure what I'd use the top one for with 64 very small compartments. Maybe for an assortment of small nuts and bolts of different types and sizes or o-rings or something. They are cool though but definitely not $300 cool - at least not for me. I might spend $50 to $100 on them.

That bench is really cool! That's it, I'm going to order a welder today. Too many ideas, not enough welder!

Twerts: i'd buy the red one for $50 and blast all that red paint off and find a spot for it. i'd probably take off the bench top which looks like an add on and sell or keep the vise depending on what it is.

I've seen some of those cabinets for sale on my local Craigslist for $400 so even if you don't have room for it just clean it up and sell or trade it for some tool or cash.

i'm guessing military for the red cabinet.

The carburetor cabinet is interesting, but not very useful unless you have a need to store small parts. i do like the patina and the cool name and condition, but open drawers with Plvmb printed on it would get my money.

The bad part about the red one is that things always accumulate on flat surfaces like tools and parts. So that you always have to move stuff to get into the top storage spot, unless you are not like me and super clean and organized all the time.

Man, wish I could find deals like that workbench locally. AR is slacking! And when the tools show up on CList the posters want full retail!

The red one is definitely not home made. I am trying to remember where I have seen that style. I would guess it was made for a military application.

I agree military if you do go and look at it the sticker on the raised lid should be a packing list and denote what it is for.
