really stupid question

So I just received my snap on butane soldering iron and here's a stupid question but does it come fueled because it's not igniting also what's the thin piece of yellow paper in metal cap like thing for?

Im guessing that the small piece of yellow paper has to be removed before it will lite. And probably does not have butane in it most places will not fill for shipping reasons they would have to ship it as a hazard because of butane and an ignition source in the same truck.

Yeah that's what im guessing and the yellow paper isn't part of the solder gun its like an accessory I just don't know for what

It is a sponge. Add a small amount of water to it, and use it to clean the tip.

Buy you some butane, it doesn't come filled. Like Pointsnorth said, the cap has a dried sponge in it, wet it and use it to clean the tip. Those soldering irons are great!

Alright so I bought a bottle of butane and filled it up and it seems to be working just a few questions, when I try to start with no tip just a flame it takes a few tries like it starts but when I take my finger off the igniter it dies out and it does that about 3 to 4 times till it holds a flame, is this normal, with a tip i see it gets red on the inside the first time and stays red, also I filled it up until liquid butane came out like the instructions said but if I look through the sight glass I don't see any liquid butane in there like the instructions say you should is this normal too ?

With the tip off the gas escapes more easily, so it's harder to ignite. The tip works as a catcher of the butane, if that makes sense to you. The one I have doesn't have a sight glass, but I'm pretty sure you can't see butane very well since it's a clear gas.

It getting red is normal, as is discoloration of the metal.

No the tip doesn't get red inside under the tip does, but what you said makes sense

It's hard to see the fuel in the tank, you have to roll the torch back and forth and watch it really carefully to see the line. You also have to hold the filler on it for a little whole to fill the torch all the way. Then again, you might have the tank all the way full, you won't see it if you don't have a little slosh space.

I used mine today to heat water to soften a teflon sealing ring. It doesn't have enough BTUs to boil much water but it'll do a bottle cap full if you are patient.

I don't think that butane soldering iron is supposed to do a flame at all, just heat the tip of whatever attachment you are using. I used to have the Blue-point one and a seperate Mac tool that was actually a butane torch with a flame.
