I don't really care for the old 830 ratchet, but the one I borrow is decades old and used daily, and my SLHF80 is brand new and still very tight and smooth.

Is this a typo or are we talking about a 1/2 in long flex comfort handle??? I'm waiting for that to come out.

The web site doesn't show it. If you have it, could you post a pic with something like a F80 for comparison? How long is it? How much is it?

Sorry, I'm a bit late for the party (tons of work). I'm a weekend wrencher with mostly Cman, as well. However, those new 80 tooth SO ratchets are really, really, good. And addictive: By now, I have a T72 (1/4 in), F80 (3/8 in), 3/8 in stubby flex, 3/8 in offset flex w/ comfort handle, and SH80 (1/2 in comfort handle). The only others I need/want are the above mentioned long 1/2 in flex and a FX80 (3/8 in locking flex).

Besides the ratchets, I only have a SO ratcheting screwdriver (also really good) and a couple of sockets. While I'd love more SO stuff, there is just no way to justify the price difference for me... The ratchets are worth it, though, IMHO.

For screwdrivers, I'd also look at Felo and Wiha (I'll do a review of the ones I bought soon, I promise :) )

I'll second that. Before my S-O addiction took over, I had ONLY the Snappy Ratchets, and everything else was a mis mash of other stuff. The snappy ratchets ARE worth writing home about, and this was before 80 tooth.

Yes. A freaking pair of needle-nose pliers. I'm serious.

And they're only $53. Buy them. A year from now, when there still isn't any slop in this super-long pair of pliers, but your short Craftsman's are all worn out in the hinge, and the vinyl is coming off, you'll see that there is a difference. ;)

I've been using some import long pliers for about 10 years or more, paid about $20 for a set of 4: straight, 45deg, 90deg & offset. Haven't let me down yet & they have no slop in them at all...

HF and Craftsman

I have replaced some poor quality HF tools with Craftsman too - though not all HF tools have been bad.

--- snip----

in fact, some of the HF stuff >> craftsman, IMO. For instance, most of the Taiwanese made Pittsburgh pro stuff (That must be Pittsburgh, ROC) is very, very good - especially that made int he last 5 years. My PP torque wrench is much nicer than my Craftsman, and their pro, fine-toothed ratchets have some of the feel of SO - nice smooth teeth, more teeth, and an excellent, rounded polish to the handle.

I buy a lot of C-man too. Good value, local. I also agree that HF is very variable. Big vices, jacks, PP hand tools are good value. Other stuff can be dicey.
